Thin is in. We've made our long-favored Cricket model even thinner by integrating the handle and lock. Custom knifemaker Chris Reeve invented the idea of making a linerlock's liner out of backside scale of the handle. In doing this, thickness and bulk are shaved off the handle for an ultra-thin folder that locks up confidently with fewer moving lock parts.
We've incorporated this design into a rounded handle with a reverse "S" shaped blade. The distinctive blade shape curves into a keen precision tip for intricate/detailed cutting. Made of VG-10 stainless steel, the blade is hollow-ground and when folded closed creates a rounded package that rides nearly invisibly in the pocket. The pocket clip carries right-handed tip-down but also attaches to a tie or makes a fashionable money clip. Create your own one of a kind Cricket with engraving, corporate logos or a personal message.
Steel Handles
Stainless Steel knife handles provide strength and durability and look and feel great.
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
VG10 Stainless Steel
A time-tested stainless steel made in Japan by Takefu and one of the most popular choices for performance kitchen knives.
Made in Japan
The exotic steel Capital of the World, Japan produces and innovates some of the best products, from pocket to kitchen knives and everything in between.
Frame Lock
Developed by Chris Reeve, it functions like a liner lock but the lock is comprised of one of the handle scales. It's an extremely strong and easy to manipulate lock.
Cons: Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Overall Quality, Sheath
Shoddy fit and finish by Seki city
The knife came with the blade rubbing the show side scale, fixed by adjusting the screws. The spydie hole is almost sharp enough to cut my fingers. I own 2 other Seki city Spydercos and they're all like this. No improvements over so many years. The chamfering on the lock side scale is extremely inconsistent, barely chamfered in some places with sudden transitions into deeply chamfered areas. For a $100 knife I expect a lot better fit and finish than this.Apart from fit and finish:The tip-down clip position is inconvenient as it blocks access to the pivot screw. To adjust the pivot you'll have to remove the clip.I bought this knife mainly for peeling/cutting fruits as its thin blade stock and hollow grind makes it a great slicer. The reverse S-shaped blade has a concave section suited for peeling (to remove as little flesh as possible). The frame-lock construction and stainless steel scales with no skeletonization make it easy to clean any food debris.
Pros: Blade Sharpness, Ease of Opening, Pocket Clip, Weight
Cons: None
Neat
Obviously very small and thin. Could use some refinement and is expensive for what it is. Ergonomics and cutting ability is great. Very satisfying to roll out, also the hawkbill is quite useful.
I like special knives that are different and unique and this is definitely but for $100 knife I think they could have doe a lot better. I think around $40 would have made me feel a little better. I do like Spyderco knives and I own around 40 of them. Thank you James A
