Description

SP36GPE: Military G-10

Spyderco

A cornerstone in Spyderco's Save and Serve line up, the Military Model came about after someone asked Spyderco's owner Sal Glesser, "If your son were going into the military what folding knife would you send him with?" For certain, it had to meet the requirements of a high-performance, light-weight folder designed for hard use.

Since the steel is the spirit of the knife, CPM-S30V seemed the logical choice for the blade given its reputation for long-term edge retention and rust resistance. The 'Millie' has a modified clip-point blade laser cut with a 14 mm Spyderco Round Hole for quick deployment and for use with gloves. Texturing above the hole hold the thumb in contact with the blade's spine during cutting for confident control over the sharpened edge. The handle scales are G-10 with the lock's liner nested (inlayed) directly into the scale, pumping up lock strength without the addition of bulky liners. Spacers between the scales create a gap running the handle's full length exposing the inside workings for inspection and cleaning. The handle flares slightly at the front end creating a finger choil and at the butt end, which keeps the knife from slipping forward or backward in the hand while sawing or making tough or aggressive cuts. A contoured metal clip is set for right-hand tip-down carry.

excellent knife.
I ordered this knife because KnifeCenter was having a sale, not really expecting much, as this is my first Spyderco. I'm completely blown away by how smoothly it opens and operates. I'd recommend this knife to anyone looking for a larger pocket knife. The G10 is a little rough at first, but after a couple days in the pocket, it feels a whole lot better.

If I were to pick the knife to be out camping with or to be deployed with in the field etc... This would be it! The spiderco original military liner lock. COULD FOOD PREP WITH IT ALL DAY. DIG TO THE BOTTOM OF CANS SPREAD PEANUT BUTTER WITH IT. DEFEND MYSELF GOD FORBID & woodworking etc... strong enough to handle the tasks. Has a better grip than the military2 because your middle finger falls into the liner lock groove. Only con is it's thin handle, but you can always figure something on.Put a ranger band over it.

Spyderco Military 4" S30V Satin Blade, black G-10
A favorite knife! Highly recommend! Super sharp! It’s too large for EDC in lighter summer clothing, not really a problem in heavier jeans, perfect size for a jacket pocket (that said, with the liner-lock there’s no back to the knife so expect lint and dirt to accumulate between the scales with loose-pocket carry). The pocket clip is nice and deep and the G-10 is nice and grippy! The Military is my second S30V blade and I love this steel; it takes an edge easily and holds it well through a lot of use. It also has some serious heft for a folding knife! I’ve taken it backpacking, shaved tinder and chopped through 1.5” branches for firewood with ease, lopped off some long green branches and whittled cooking skewers, cut some rope and then thin-sliced some fruit! The edge was still sharp enough to sink right into my skin with little pressure. This is a knife so sharp it can cut you deeply before you will feel it so even those experienced with knives should respect it and be careful handling. Most knives will never be used as a weapon but in extreme need for self-defense this is one that one I would feel extremely confident having in hand; it has a wicked point for stabbing cuts, will tear through just about anything and has enough mass to get right down to and through bone. A non-determined attacker will probably run just at the brandishing of this knife. The above qualities also make it a great hunting and field knife. I prefer it over some fixed blades, and it’s compact to carry. Having said all of this because it’s so nice I find myself taking it with me more for certain special or specific occasions rather than for EDC. I tend to reach for cheaper blades, especially if I know I’m going to work them, because I want to keep my Military looking nice. If you consider this to be an expensive knife you will probably feel this way too. It can do everything you want it to but you won’t want it to. If money is no object it’s a great daily working knife that will do all you ask of it while still looking badass!
