The Robin 2's intermediate size makes it a winning crossover for both office or weekend carry. The FRN version has a slip-free texture, deeply molded into the plastic so they won’t slide or move around in the hand. Nested inside the handle are full-length steel liners add rigidity and strength without unnecessary weight and phosphor bronze bushing for smooth open/close. Jimping (texturing) at the spine and choil keep the folder firmly in your grip creating more purchase and control even when cutting strenuously or for long periods of time. Flat-ground, the blade is made with high carbon 8Cr13MoV. A 4-way pocket clip for left or right-handed, tip-up or tip-down carry.
8Cr Stainless Steel
One of the most common budget stainless steels, it maintains a competitive combination of edge retention and toughness in its price range.
Zytel Handles
A nylon polymer that is lightweight and extremely durable, Zytel can be shaped and textured to provide excellent grip.
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
Lockback
The lockback system has been used for many decades. It can usually be found on the knife spine and it provides a strong lockup that will wear well.
Dragonfly for 1/3 of the price; but thicker wider handles
The handle edges are sharp not rounded, and the handle spacer doesn't align perfectly with the handle sides. On the other hand it improves on the Dragonfly 2 thusly: wider handle easier to hold; skeletonized steel liners; 4 position vs. 2 position pocket clip; totally disassembles (Dragonfly tail end is epoxied to the spacer) Cedric and Ada YouTuber has gotten impressive edge retention in tests of 8Cr13MoV, comparable to VG10. You can buy a Dragonfly 2 and have bragging rights, or a Byrd Robin 2 and use it in exactly the same use pattern. Not sure? Buy both and use the Byrd as your "beater".
I love spyderco knives, but I was extremely disappointed with the overall quality of this budget knife. Extreme blade play, very cheap assembly ,even for a knife under $20 (reminded me of a worse than" frost "line cutlery sold on t.v. I was very happy with my prior purchase the tenacious, but this robin is another story.
This is the 3rd or 4th of the Robin that I have purchased, both serrated and plain blade. Used for typical EDC, opening packages, cutting tape and the like. For the money, its great - easy to sharpen, small enough to be carried comfortably in a pocket with a decent build quality.
