SPBY17SOR2: BY17SOR2 Cara Cara 2 Rescue

byrd Knife Designed by Spyderco

Emergency responders, EMTs, ranchers and river guides by and large favor and purchase round tipped blades because they can't poke or puncture inflatable watercraft, livestock or people. The nature of these professions, place their workers in unpredictable places and situations where cutting without worry about puncturing or poking provides peace of mind. The Cara Cara 2 Rescue features a high-visibility orange injected molded FRN handle and a Sheepfoot, safety shaped 8Cr13Mov stainless steel blade. Its hollow-ground, fully serrated for sliding safely under rope, seatbelts or clothing and offer the highest level cutting performance. Ergonomic comfort is equally important as cutting ability in a rescue knife so the fiberglass reinforced nylon handles are Bi-Directionally Textured and have jimping above the Comet Shaped Hole and along the finger choil. It has a four-way clip that carries: right/left-hand, tip-up/tip-down. A half-moon of steel removed from the locking lever (called a David Boye Dent) lessens the chance of gripping the knife tightly enough during use to inadvertently unlock the blade. Safe and smart.

Very good for heavy fiber cutting and edc
I am a fisherman but in summer and fall seasons keep plantings of eggplant, gourds and heavy stem produce. I started harvesting this week and needed something strong and sharp to cut heavy stems. . A great choice for multiple tasking rather than.using plain blade knives which are ok but not quite up to the task.I ordered this serrated blade knife and find it perfect for heavy cutting...It is strong and very sharp. I am now also using it as a backup edc. It handles well for most chores. You have to like this one.

Good value
I’m a longtime Spyderco user, partial to their Japanese models. I work in QC at a factory & often need to cut open thick poly bags, through thick layers of tape and sometimes plastic components.. It’s nice to have a tip that won’t pierce product inside containers. I don’t want to carry higher end knives as shady people tend to walk off with things that belong to others. The higher-vis orange handle catches my eye if I set it down. This knife came even sharper than most of my serrated Seki Spyderco Enduras. I know from experience the edge retention will be decent for a cheaper steel.. It’s a large folder with minimal weight & the sheepsfoot tip and color make it clear it’s not a weapon, it doesn’t look overtly tactical. More like a tool. The quality & fit/finish on this piece exceeds a couple of other Byrd knives I bought about 10 years ago. The FRN handle is nicely detailed & grips every bit as well as the ‘volcano grip’ pattern on Japanese Spydercos. It’s geared toward fire & EMT and SAR folks but it’s not limited to its suggested role. This is a great choice for warehouse or manufacturing environments if your employer permits personal knives. It feels and performs like a spyderco at a fraction of the cost and isn’t a weeping tragedy if it walks off, or gets misplaced. As long as your expectations are realistic at this budget price, you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised with the performance of the CaraCara Rescue 2.

Amazing value
I bought this knife mainly for fishing. Getting your lure hung up in a tree or reeds as a result of a bad cast can be a tricky thing. To maneuver the boat up to the bank is a bit touch-and-go so I find it easier to quickly saw the branch off than to try to unhook the lure with finesse.
