Maybe the coolest key ring knife you will ever see!Spyderco quality is second to none and this one has super premium steel and a beautiful wood handle. The blade of this elite expression of the Spyderco Ladybug is crafted from three-layer laminated steel featuring a HAP40 core and SUS410 outer layers. HAP40 is a high-speed tool steel produced by the powder metallurgy process—an advanced manufacturing method that minimizes alloy segregation in the steel to ensure an extremely fine, uniform carbide structure. Its sophisticated alloy composition includes generous amounts of tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, and cobalt to give it exceptional toughness and high abrasion resistance—key qualities of a superior blade steel. To enhance the blade's strength and corrosion resistance, its high-performance HAP40 core is flanked by layers of SUS410 martensitic stainless steel. This unique three-layer construction can be seen clearly when the full-flat-ground blade is examined closely, as the transition between the core and outer layers are visible just above the cutting edge.
Equally unique, the handle of this distinctive knife features a stainless steel body flanked by scales machined from mahogany Pakkawood. Pakkawood combines the durability and stability of a phenolic laminate with the rich beauty of natural wood. All other features of the classic Ladybug are faithfully maintained to make this knife both a fully functional cutting tool and a work of art. A truly remarkable expression of the Ladybug design, this KnifeCenter Exclusive is destined to become a coveted collector's item.
Wood Handles
Provides a traditional, natural look and feel to a modern tool. Wood absorbs shock well and is popular in axe handles.
Lockback
The lockback system has been used for many decades. It can usually be found on the knife spine and it provides a strong lockup that will wear well.
Made in Japan
The exotic steel Capital of the World, Japan produces and innovates some of the best products, from pocket to kitchen knives and everything in between.
This is a beautiful little knife. The liners are a nice addition. If it was 1/3 bigger it would probably sell out in minutes. A Japanese spyderco w/ liners, wood scales, Hap 40 steel. If ur trying to choose between this iteration and the K390, I have both. I carry this one much more. I would give fit and finish a B+, the crown of the spine has some pitting and the inside edge of the liners are sharp, easy to knock down. I also had to loctite the pivot screw. Small issues. If ur looking for a small knife, pull the trigger, u won’t be disappointed. Also, factory edge is as sharp as a razor, a tip of the hat to u, spyderco.
The utility of a small knife shouldn't be overlooked, Spyderco clearly knows this as this is not even the smallest knife they make. This expression is particularly enjoyable. The Pakkawood handles are rich and warm and expertly fitted. I can't help it: I'm a sucker for a laminated blade. I'd heard a lot of talk about HAP40 being a super-steel but knew little about it. I actually own a Manix 2 in CPM REX 45 which is almost identical to HAP40 in composition (they are equivalent). It sharpens pretty easily, especially in a blade this small, and takes a screaming edge - as Tungsten bearing steels have a reputation to do. I bought it for the wood and the steel, and I find I really like the form factor and the quality of execution.
Spyderco quality in a great little knife. Perfect for light tasks. Don’t think I’ll put it on a key ring, tho. It’s too pretty…I don’t wanna beat it up. I’ll keep it on the reloading bench and gaze at it admiringly.
