TOPS Knives

Leo Espinoza is known for his unique designs that are as functional as they are attractive. The Tundra Trekker is a kukri-esque design that has the blade heavy balance and general shape of a standard kukri with Leo's style.

It is thinner and lighter than traditional kukris aside from the obvious fact that the blade style and saw teeth are also not something you'd see on a traditional kukri. Yet this 9" blade made with a 0.19" 1095 stock will be an excellent cutter in the field. The nicely rounded Micarta handles are long enough to provide more than one grip option for different cutting tasks. It has TOPS's opposing pitch saw teeth on the top so that users can quickly and cleanly make notches in wood when setting up camp or for certain survival tasks.

The Tundra Trekker comes with TOPS's robust Tactical Stone powder coat finish, Green Canvas Micarta, and an open-backed Kydex sheath with a leather dangler to make it easy to carry through thick brush and trees. It will excel in anything from chopping wood, to making traps and tent pegs, clearing brush, and whatever else you might decide to throw its way.

Great knife
Not fond of the finishes tops uses on most of their knives, powder coating and "TRACTION" coating. But I get it, without these coatings the owner needs to put forth a little effort to prevent rust. Other than that, this is a fantastic tool. Front heavy makes it great for chopping. Sawback has WORKING saw teeth (enlarge the photo and take a good look). Ideal blade thickness for its size. Nice balance between hardness and ductility. Not too heavy for most backpackers. Good kydex Sheath, and I'm not even a fan of kydex. Well thought out tool. Again, would be 5 stars for me with a simple black coating. Overall very pleased. It's a tops so I'm looking forward to putting it thru some real hard use.

light weight chopper
This one got me. I respect the kukri design for chopping but don't find it really worth all the weight. Now this Tops Tundra Trekker is only 16.6 oz. That make it a real nice hiking weight if it can chop well. (losing all that weight could decrease it's ability) Well I took it out to weed a really neglected area. I started using a Terävä Skrama 240 which is a really good all purpose large knife. It is quite a good chopper. I started to run into some small trees and the Skrama was having a hard time with them, so I decided to try the Trekker. It preformed great! small trees were going down in a few swings. 3 inch diameter were taking 4-6 swings. It cuts like a hatch! Very glad to own it.

great well balanced kukri style knife
This is one he** of a blade, from end to end the fit and finish is on point. The sheath is right on point too with a perfect fit, it snaps in so well you really dont need the strap. The only thing to complain about on this knife for me is the saw back. I have a love hate relationship with it. It looks awesome on it but I find I rarely have a use for it. Would it stop me from buying it again?....nope Id drop money on this in a heart beat.
