I'm a cattleman in East Texas, I've carried a knife since I was a 3 year old, when my grandpa bought me my first single blade Boker, I still bear the scar on my left thumb. I carried a custom made knife in combat in viet nam, so, I'm real particular about leaving the house without checking I have a knife in my pocket or on my side. This Rangerwood was a gift from dear friends from Switzerland. Right from the 1st moment I palmed it, I could feel the knifemaker had me in mind when he crafted this beauty. It has the feel of a personal weapon and tool, literally made for a man of action. I've cut hay bale twine easy as slicing a butter bar for my bread, striped cable & wire, reamed out feed barrels, split kindling for a camp fire and edged back a crimped battery cable; cut heavy nylon rope too; man, there is little I can think of this big boy won't do if asked.

Great All Around Knife
Great quality all around. Blade came out of the box shaving sharp. Ive been using the knife out in the woods for the best part of a month now and Im yet to find a job it cant do. The blade holds an edge and I dont think I'll need to sharpen it for a while yet.

a BIG folder
First a confession - I love Victorinox pocket knives. In particular the locking blade series. So it didn't take much convincing to make me decide that I needed this one in my life.First impression is the size. This think is big, chunky, and heavy. Those are not negatives at all if you want the security of stronger knife. I do think it would be a stretch to call this a "pocket" knife though because you would need seriously big pockets. It makes my Victorinox Hunter look like a toy in comparison so you can imagine what it looks like next to the standard Victorinox models like the Spartan.The contoured handle sits well in my palm and feels substantial. The walnut handle must be CNC'ed and it feels a little rough where the CNC bit has gone against the grain. I may touch this up with very fine sandpaper.The locking mechanism on this knife is different to the other Victorinox knives in that you push the "shield" or "crest" on the handle as a button to unlock the blade. The action on the button is not very smooth and feels slightly loose so it will be interesting to see how it will last. It certainly doesn't have that precise Swiss feel to it.This is a collaberation with Wenger so the blade shape is slightly different to the usual Victorinox blade.In summary I'm happy I took the leap. It's a really pretty knife that should serve me well for many years.
