The CRKT Provoke series features Joe Caswell’s Kinematic technology, which allows for one of the fastest manual deployments in the folding karambit category. This innovative design moves the blade forward on a set of arms rather than a traditional pivot, providing unique safety and concealment benefits.
How does the CRKT Provoke Kinematic mechanism work?
Unlike a standard folder with a pivot, the CRKT Provoke uses a set of arms to shift the blade forward from the handle spine. Users deploy the blade by pushing the upper crossbar with their thumb while maintaining a standard karambit grip, offering speed that rivals fixed blades.
How do you close a Provoke series knife?
To close the knife, you must manipulate the lock tab located near the base of the finger ring. Shifting this tab back toward the spine of the handle disengages the Kinematic mechanism, allowing the blade to be retracted safely into its closed position.
What handle and blade materials are used in the Provoke series?
The CRKT Provoke series offers several material configurations, including premium versions with 6061 T6 aluminum handles and D2 steel blades. More lightweight options utilize Grivory handles with 1.4116 stainless steel blades, and the series even includes a dedicated trainer model with an unsharpened 420J2 blade.
Why is the Kinematic design beneficial for tactical use?
The Kinematic design provides a significant safety advantage because the blade path does not cross where your fingers grip the handle, meaning it cannot close on your hand if the lock is stressed. Additionally, the flat-profile pocket clip allows for discrete carry while remaining ready for rapid deployment.
Is the CRKT Provoke available with different blade shapes?
While most models in the Provoke series feature the traditional hawkbill blade common to karambits, the series also includes EDC-focused versions with a drop point blade. This variety allows users to choose between a specialized defensive tool or a more utilitarian geometry for daily tasks.
