The Provoke™ First Responder morphing karambit knife is among the first to feature Kinematic™ technology, staying neatly tucked away in transit and coming to life when there's trouble afoot. And the multiple carry options plus a glass breaker were designed specifically with men and women in uniform in mind.

CRKT thinks of Designer Joe Caswell as somewhat of a mad scientist. When they got an eyeful of the sketches that were to become the Provoke — designed in Newbury Park, California — they knew he was destined to become one of the most innovative designers the knife world has ever seen. Modeled after a traditional karambit, the hawkbill-style blade is forged of premium D2 tool steel and finished with a black titanium nitride coating for high durability and excellent edge retention. To better equip the men and women in blue, CRKT has added a glass breaker to the tip of the frame and included a sheath with numerous gear attachment options to the Provoke First Responder.

The opening mechanism is pulling the folder into the future whether it's ready or not. Thumb pressure on the upper crossbar sets the chain reaction in motion, causing the blade to lunge to action while you've got a firm grasp on the handle. It's crafted of aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum for supreme toughness. In true Joe fashion, the pocket clip is also a world's first—sitting almost completely flush with the handle and likewise activated with light thumb pressure.

The Provoke First Responder comes up strong when it's called in for duty.

How Kinematic Works

Nudge the upper crossbar with your thumb—while the rest of your fingers firmly grasp the handle—and the blade lunges to life and locks into place. Shift the discreet lever at the base of the finger loop and the blade retreats into its closed position.

My forever EDC
While it takes a bit of fidgeting to work it one-handed, this has become my forever knife. Which was totally unexpected, as I thought this to be a special carry on certain days...I also like the initial draw (without blade deployment), that gives me a non-lethal option (knuckle ring). But I can easily convert to bladed in about two tenths of a second. Always nice to have that choice, and I rarely find that choice in a knife.Yes, a bit heavy.Yes, a bit bulky, compared to a sleeker EDC.But very smooth and strong.The pocket clip is so amazingly flush, I didn't even know it was there for the first few weeks.

Fun toy, terrible knife
I know everyone loves this knife, but truth is truth. It’s fun to play with. It’s actually made very well, the lock is solid and the build quality is very good. It came razor sharp. But to actually use this knife in a fight sucks. Yes you can hack up a box or make a huge gouge in a hunk of meat for YouTube but in reality The cutting edge is tiny and in person it’s even smaller. Mostly you just catch the tip of the blade and make a nasty scratch. It’s not long enough. I feel the blade needed to be twiceThe length at least to effectively cut someone or make a big enough cut to stop and attack. It will pierce but it takes a lot of force to get through clothing and deep enough to cause a real wound. The curve of the blade looks scary but to actually use, I think you get less than .5 inches that actually makes contact in a real situation. Maybe if you are a highly trained, instructor level, martial artist you could make this effective but the reality is most of us buying this are normal joes who just want to protect ourselves and honestly this knife simply sucks for that. The grip is ok but the finger ring is too big and feels awful between your 1st and second finger when actually cutting and swinging, it’s idea of being hard to disarm is true but when actually using it in a hammer grip it feels more like you will easily get your finger broken during a struggle. You absolutely must have the sheath. The blade is exposed when closed and putting this in your pocket, the blade will catch on anything else. Including your finger. It’s absolutely dangerous. So having that sheath is 100% mandatory if you want to carry this. You could keep it in a coin / pocket watch type of pocket perhaps that would be ok. In a regular pair of pants pockets... No way. The sheath is not that great and feels like it will crack or break when loading or drawing, it’s too tight without a positive lock. It’s definitely not like a secure-ex. The included belt clips are cheap but work. Screwing them down completely like a tek lok is impossible so there is always a little wiggle room and you notice it when wearing it on a belt during the day. The “glass breaker” is a tiny tiny tiny bead on the end of the frame. Does not work at all. The impact of the metal frame breaks the glass. And you have to slam that thing with the wrath of God. Definitely not a glass breaker like the end of a Microtech. But to use it you need to have it in the closed position and gripping that area with the exposed blade and slamming the frame down is your finger being sliced open waiting toHappen. I think this is a fun but crazy dangerous toy to play with, it’s a cool knife to add to your collection and to show your knife friends, the way it opens is genius and the idea is really cool. So if you want to buy this for fun, it’s great in that aspect. If you want to protect yourself from blm or sodomites get a cold steel espada around the same price.

A curved knife with an innovative look
The knife is sharp out of the box.Tested with a cardboard and cuts really well. It locks into place upon full open. Unlocking is easy as well. Does not rattle when shaking. Not very loose or tight in the joint area, just balanced. Ceramic glass breaker is a plus. The sheath has two different attachments, one for the MOLLE and one for the belt. First time users will have a hard time to assemble this because it has no instructions or guides included.
