About the Designer

Joe Flowers is responsible for many of the interesting blade designs throughout the pages of the Condor catalog. Joe writes for a myriad of magazines and publications and contributes regularly to the outdoor community, concentrating on woodcraft and primitive living. His knowledge of outdoor gear led to consulting on equipment design and function for many companies. Joe holds a degree in Zoology with a minor in Entomology, and researches heavily into all things outdoors. Joe Flowers also teaches outdoor skills and survival classes around the US. Locally, he teaches fitness, martial arts, and organizes youth summer camps in his spare time. Joe is an avid naturalist, hunter, fisherman, herpetologist, videographer, beekeeper, knife thrower, guide, and regularly travels internationally in search of knife knowledge and unique animals. You can find Condor on Joe’s side when he is deep in the Amazonian rain forest or high in the deserts of Utah.

Just received my DarkSaxon today, and for the money, this is not a bad knife. I am not crazy about the materials used (high carbon steel will rust if not cared for), and the polypropylene handle, finger guard and hilt guard will offer no protection for your fingers or blade against a better built knife. The blade is surprisingly light for its length, and extremely well balanced. The blade finish is attractive is well applied. The blade fullers are just a historical formality, this knife is light enough to do without them. I do not think the DarkSaxon as presented could hold up to sustained rough handling or field work. The blade is too thin and light, and the handle doesn't seem substantial enough for any aggressive punishment. A full grip on the handle proves to be a good fit for average sized hands, but when you try to hold it with the thumb and fore finger up against the handguard for more forward control, the handle seems to get a little too short, another 2 inches longer would be ideal. The reason I purchased this knife was because of its historical seax design at a reasonable price point, which earned its 4 point rating.
