CR4031: Jon Graham 4031 Razel GT Folding Knife

Columbia River (CRKT)

Forget the fine tip. The Razel /ray-zuhl/ GT boldly challenges the blade shape norm. While this everyday carry folder's stubby profile is its defining quality, the Assisted Opening innovation deploys the blade at incredible speeds. An all-new take on tradition.

Designer Jon Graham of Cleveland, Tennessee built the Razel GT around an incredibly versatile blade and equipped it with features to match. The multi-purpose stainless steel chisel blade is crafted for push cutting, slicing, scraping, and everything in between. When met with the Assisted Opening innovation, it's unstoppable. Nudge the blade open part-way and the innovation activates, snapping it open at super high speed. The IKBS ball bearing pivot system makes for a smooth rotation and a liner lock keeps it solidly in place between the burly aluminum handle.

Designed by a mechanic; crafted for camp, the shop, the office, and everywhere in between.

How Assisted Opening Works

It's held securely closed in your pocket, but initiate the deployment, and part-way through the rotation the blade swings open at an impressive speed for simple, powerful, one-handed opening.

Pros: Ease of Opening
Cons: Handle Feel, Handle Material
Form does not meet intended function.
General positive feedback on the Razel designs made the 2021 refinements seem appealing. Unfortunately, it is awkward and seems to make concessions to price-point that basically disqualify its use.I have average hand size and the handle is too short for a work knife. You can't get your pinky inside the lower swell, and if you let it rest outside, the oddly pointy bolster pokes into your palm meat. The handle material is very slick, and the texturing does little to add grip. Holding the knife in chisel/scrape mode also feels a bit insecure.Assisted opening feels decent, handle feels strong, but the ergos should be field-tested more for the sort of scraping and push-cutting the design suggests. Even as a sort of utility/garage knife, it should be bigger and grippier.
