GB01970: Answer F.A.S.T. Assisted Folding Knife - Tanto

Gerber

The Answer F.A.S.T. assisted opening folding knife, developed in order to provide lightning-fast access to a blade when most needed, is a Gerber true innovator. The dual thumb studs operating in conjunction with the smart safety-slide lock offer an intuitive ease of utility.

ASSISTED OPEN FOR LIGHTNING QUICK USE
Using one hand, intuitively flip the Answer F.A.S.T. tanto-style folder open while actively engaged in cracking into a box, tearing through a cord, or snapping ties or netting. With its 3.25-inch partially serrated hardy stainless steel tanto blade coated in black oxide for low visual signature, this assisted-open knife can stand up to tough application. Its super-solid anodized aluminum handle will tolerate muscular utility while keeping weight at a minimum, and the textured inlay on the handle allows for confident use by its operator. Jimping on the upper handle beneath the thumb and curvature of thoughtfully positioned lower finger grooves are built for easy ergonomic functioning and grip with this sturdy knife when downrange.

LOCK DOWN INSURANCE FOR SAFETY
Engage the sturdy, light 4.9 ounce folder’s safety slide locking mechanism with the thumb once the blade is deployed; the blade can then be closed one-handed after the slide lock is compressed upward merely by flipping it down against a hard surface. Tip-down carry makes it easy to bring the Answer F.A.S.T. out of a pocket, engage the safety-slide lock, and open the knife wherever and whenever the need for a beefy blade might arise. A stainless pocket clip is attached, and a lanyard hole in the pommel provides for the option of tie-down for additional security.

Cons: Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Handle Material, Lock Ease of Use
Sorry To Say Disappointing
No doubt the brand is great, I'm sure for some its a great fit.I had a bad experience, immensely difficult in flipping it open, my thumb is pretty bruised. The lock blade is really flimsy, very concerned the knife will close on my fingers if working tough on it, blade is great and the injury would be substantial. The handle feel a little cheep. Great knife, bad F.A.S.T. Assisted, its not my knife.

Great Knife, Great Value
This knife is a fantastic daily utility knife. I spent a great deal of time selecting my knife, perhaps more than I needed to but I got a good one. The 'Answer' is good for the following reasons:Handle and grip are formed well and ergonomic feeling when held. The inserts are a nice feature and add a good amount of grip actually. The thumb ramp is modest but effective and has ribbing for thumb traction. Good lower channel for your fore finger. I am not worried about my hand slipping.Mechanisms are solid. Some reviewers of the knife dislike hearing the spring sound when folding the knife. It sounds like a normal operating sound to me. It is not a "cheap" or "flimsy" sound so it's doing what it's supposed to in my mind. Safety and blade release switch is solid. Blade is seated well, no blade play, and is on center. Clip is 'low hanging' so it rides low in the pocket. The blade is sharp as can be out of the box. It's like exacto razor blade sharp. The tanto profile has a great shape for puncturing and cutting. The coating does what it is supposed to do, helping pass the blade through the subject material. I appreciate the larger serrated area which is useful when you need to use that area. 3.25" length is perfect... large blade, but still remains a pocket knife. It is probably heavier than some care for (I don't care).

Pros: Ease of Opening, Handle Material
Cons: None
Overall a good knife for the price. I didn't like that upon opening and closing, you could hear the sound of a flimsy spring used for the assisted open. I also wish it had an option for tip up carry clip.
