FOXFX526GG10: FX-526 GG10 Voxnaes Suru - KnifeCenter Exclusive Golf Ball Pattern G10

Fox Knives

Fox Knives is keeping things stylish with the Jesper Voxnaes-designed Suru frame lock flipper. The blackened stonewash finish on the blade looks fantastic against the black anodized and weathered finish of the aluminum frame. A golf ball textured G10 presentation scale combines good looks with great feel and it can only be found here at the KnifeCenter.

The Suru can be opened with either a flipper or a small blade cutout. A ball-bearing pivot ensures smooth and consistent action, making the Suru a joy to open. A steel insert on the lock bar provides a solid experience.

Small but mighty, the handles are designed to accommodate a variety of grips, bringing the 2.32" clip point blade to bear. The finger guard provided by the flipper provides protection for your fingers, and for even closer work a generous choil in front of the flipper/guard allows you to choke up for more precision. The handle length can even be lengthened by adding a lanyard or custom bead to the exposed lanyard hole, granting extra style and grip for your pinky finger.

Bohler N690 steel backs up the good looks of the Suru with serious performance and the blackened stonewash finish adds extra durability and corrosion resistance.

Completing the package is black-finished hardware including a deep-carry wire clip. Stylish and functional, this clip allows for discreet carry in a tip-up, right side carry configuration.

N690

The cobalt-alloyed N690 by Bohler (not to be confused with the lower-grade N695) is a very reliable upper middle-grade steel Fox uses for a wide variety of projects. The fine-grained N690, which ranks above 440C, offers convincing performance data in all areas. It is often sold as N690Co – the "Co" stands for cobalt and describes the exact same steel.

Swapped the first out, the second has its own probs
Both knives sent to me were rough, in terms of edge and finish. Unfortunate, even in a $99 blade. The liner lock still takes brute force to open, and the design is such that in order to flick, you have to avoid leaning on the lock, which is extremely difficult. I wonder why this knife won knife of the year? It's a terrible design from my perspective. I'm truly disappointed; I love my other Italian knives, and this one was so promising. I love the aesthetic.

Stiff action
Ordered this on special price and was excited to receive it. However the opening action is very rough and I cannot get it to open smoothly at all. It always stops halfway. Maybe some break in refinement or KPL is needed but not something I think should be necessary for a knife this expensive out of the box. Also the frame lock is very tight and hard to unlock, takes much more effort than cheaper knives. This is disappointing for the price point, so I plan to send it back unfortunately.

Pros: Blade Material
Cons: Lock Ease of Use
Lots of things good, but framelock ain't one of them
I happen to love the Mangiano makers, Fox, MKM, etc. This knife is sweet in the hand, satisfying to flick open, aesthetically pleasing. However, the framelock...sweet Jesus it's rough. Very hard to unlock, and when I do unlock it finally, it's at the expense of my thumb pad. That painful bug there makes me very unhappy with this otherwise charming little knife. Hopefully it'll break in...
