GMOCLYDEGCMBR: ACE Clyde Folding Knife - Green Canvas Micarta and Brass

GiantMouse

Meet Clyde...More "folk" than "lore." More "urban" than "legend." More "goofus" than "gallant."

Maybe it's GiantMouse's fault that Clyde turned out the way he did. After all, they did name him after their favorite watering hole in Portland, OR "The Clyde Common", located at the ACE Hotel in Pearl district. And they did create him as a mix of Scandinavia meets Japan and flirts with the Persians - no good lovechild could come from that...or could it? Well, we surely think so!

Clyde has a slim, pointy, and slightly upswept blade in Elmax steel (or “El Max,” as Clyde claims it is pronounced, being that it's named after a semi-famous Lucha libre wrestler from the ´70s). The handle looks smaller than it feels, just like Clyde claims in other matters, and the ergonomics of the knife may surprise you given its simple lines.

This version in green canvas Micarta sports a brass thumb stud and backspacer. We think that Clyde is the perfect EDC knife and, if you haven't noticed yet, it has a ton of attitude that will set it apart!

Clyde a work of art, a piece of a**...Love'm
I am a collector of EDCs so my comments derive from what's in the hand not in the field. Disclosure: I am a GiantMouse EDC enthusiast. I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewer. This is my second Clyde. The first Clyde in my collection is the tumbled Brass handle (presentation side) with Titanium backspacer edition. The moment I viewed this Clyde in Green Canvas Micarta with brass Backspacer and Thumbstud, I bought it in my imagination. As it is KCI's way, my purchase in real time shipped ih jet speed to my door which always makes me extremely grateful and happy. Thank you KCI. Perhaps another reviewer's repetitive observations when covering the same attributes is more about the assurance of a consistency in design, style, fabrication, quality of materials, and performance (action), blade finish. Reate, the manufacturer in China, has long ago earned its reputation for excellence. Made in the USA is not foreign to GiantMouse's product line. And Made in China is a province of an excellent fabricator. My GiantMouse Clyde in Green Micarta with Brass (hereafter, GMCGMB) arrived in pristine condition. It can be easily regarded as a Gentleman's EDC. Just lying there closed, it's elegant. The Green Micarta canvas scales are perfect, and in hand excellent feels comfortable. Close the blade disappears inside the handle with a hint of its crown. There are brass highlights visible on the front of the EDC on blade with the Thumbstud, as well as at the tail end with a generous geometric shaped lanyard port (if so inclined) that integrates in the design rather than a tunnel through the handle. The designed extended Backspacer in brass terminating in that artful lanyard receiver works so well For me, and this may seem odd to convey, the whole EDC has a calming element, a luxurious presence, until one pick it up, flips the Thumbstud which (though I dislike most thumbstuds because they often pretend to open the bade easily to introduce it -- but not until you find the right angle to actuate the thumbstud to move open the blade). Not so with the Clyde in any flavor. Clyde opens smoothly, easily with alacrity and that beautiful quiet blade at three inches of EL Max (Elmax steel) swings a gorgeous slightly upswept blade in stonewash finish keeping that quiet presence but the blade on either end of of it in your hand or facing it reveals a thin piercing, even daunting introduction for the second stage of how gorgeous this EDC presents. The blade arrived pristine and in "watch-out" sharp. The lines of this three inch blade is consistent with elegance. Described as a Trailing point style blade. It's hard to put down. Highly recommended as both an engaging EDC in style and artful piece.

Great edc
I've had the clyde for weeks so far and I've really come to love the this knife. Came sharp, materials are top notch. Love the elmax, though I haven't sharpened clyde yet. The look and feel of the handle is great. I love the jimping on the liner lock. This knife carries great. I really enjoy this knife. It's worth every penny. I'm glad I gave giant mouse my business, they make quality blades my knife was perfect.
