Excellent field knife.
First off, let me say I love this knife. I work as a field instructor and wildlife monitor, all over Northern Canada and beyond. I also enjoy hunting and bushcrafting every chance I can get. I'm frequently in boats, small aircraft, on snowmobiles, etc. This knife follows me everywhere now. High Arctic to Boreal forest, and everything in between. I looks large, at least when you are used to handling "smaller" knives, but it handles smaller than it looks, if that makes sense. It can slice well, do delicate carving, chop branches, skin and butcher, and easily handle most cutting chores, like cordage, etc. Excellent "plane down" knife.I took mine to 30 degrees on my Lansky sharpener, and I keep it hair popping sharp. I strop it frequently, and it polishes the edge nicely. It holds well, and is easy to touch up, when it eventually needs it. A quick buff of the blade, scales and rivets with some leather, and it's ready to go again. Easy to clean, feels good in many common grips for various tasks. Hammer grip, chest lever pulls, splitting with an open hand web, thumb levering the tip, index finger on the lovely gimping, etc. It does it all well. Makes lovely notches of all sorts.My one minor gripe is the sheath. Some don't like the flap, as if you aren't careful, you can start to cut it on the draw, but simply move it out of the way first. The bigger issue, for me, is that the rivets at the bottom can contact your tip's edge, and dull it a bit. You can order it with a different sheath, or buy it separately, that is an open drop-in sheath that also can hold a sharpening steel/ferro rod. I'll be ordering that soon, but until then, I've just simply removed the rivets. The slip in sheath will most likely better protect my firearm from banging into the stock in certain carries.This one knife can do all my firecraft up to wrist-sized wood, clean small to large game, build traps, shelter, bow-drill sets, clean fish, clear camp, perform boating tasks and more.Oh yes, that swedge-like tip throws sparks from a ferro rod quite easily. Just a slightly different technique than a fully 90 degree spine.I'm really loving this knife, and it's quickly became my favourite, and a go to. I have other Grohmanns, and they all are exceptional quality and functional.
