The Fairbairn Sykes British commando knife is a double-edged knife with a cast metal grip developed by William Ewart Fairbairn and Eric Anthony Sykes before World War II. It was made famous during the War when issued to British Commandos, including the SAS. Although the Fairbairn-Sykes knife is now of interest mainly to collectors, because of its sleek lines and its commando associations it still remains in production today.

This knife was designed exclusively for surprise attack and fighting. The slender blade can easily penetrate a ribcage and the vase handle grants precise grip. The double-edged blade is integral to its design.

The balance of a Fairbairn-Sykes is a crucial part of the design and it takes careful forging and production to ensure that the knife balances exactly as designed. The hilt should fit easily in the hand and the blade should not be so heavy that it tends to drag the hilt from the fingers in a loose grip. The knives come in a leather sheath with a metal tip so it can be easily stowed in a boot or attached to a belt.

*The British Commando Dagger was originally designed to be a piercing tool, therefore the cutting edge may not arrive shaving-sharp - this is for additional strength and piercing potential.

Earns its reputation

This is just a great combat knife, my favorite weapon to train with. It is a legend and you can see why it is so popular. The weight is superb, the handle is perfect, the blade is deadly, and it is quite easy to use in a versatile, hectic sort of fashion. Very easy to toss between hands. Despite it being basically a stiletto it works pretty well defensively - it is quick and has good reach.Also seems like a cool weapon if you collect them. The complaints about the sheath are unfortunately quite valid, it's a cheap pleather thing.Out of the box the blade doesn't have an edge. But it should be sharpened if you intend to use it for self-defense. Once sharpened it holds an edge quite well.

FS Fighting Knife

I got mine thru USPS in plastic packages wrap, tip slightly bent. I carefully straightened it to "never happened" condition. I have since stropped the satin finish blade to a pristeen shine tip to guard. The sheath is in excellent condition. The price has gone up on this knife since ordered mine. This one now sits in an oak show cabinet.
