The original TDI series of knives changed many law enforcement officers’ idea of what an edged backup weapon could be. With input from tactical knifemaker Rick Hinderer, these models are gonna change all those minds all over again!
The Original TDI Knife was designed by John Benner, founder of Tactical Defense Institute. A former Police Lieutenant, Drug Task Force Coordinator, and SWAT Team Tactical Field Commander, Benner has more than 30 years' experience in the law enforcement field. He has developed courses for raid tactics, defensive tactics and knife programs that are currently taught to law enforcement, military and civilian groups.
The TDI/Hinderer knives are design collaborations between Tactical Defense Institute President and Chief Instructor, John Benner, and custom knife maker, Rick Hinderer, owner of Hinderer Knives. Based on their combined respective experiences as a veteran police Lieutenant and Fire Fighter/EMT, John Benner and Rick Hinderer have designed knives for real-world emergency situations - where a sure grip and quick draw are paramount. Features an ambidextrous friction-fit glass reinforced nylon sheath which can be attached at multiple angle to fit anyone's personal preference.

A Collaboration like BP
I'm not a big fixed blade guy but for right around $100, Ka-Bar and Hinderer did something right.The knife has a solid weight and the handle has a good grippy texture. Feels great in hand with the finger contouring. The curved spine with jimping is perfect. It looks great all blacked out with a cool blade shape. Nice fit and finish. Feels like something you could beat up and it will still keep on ticking. Like others, surprised with how NOT sharp it is.The sheath is very functional with belt clip and lock in feature. Unlocks easily with thumb for quick draw.

I was afraid this knife could be too long for daily use but the size is perfect, both the blade and handle.The curve grind makes it a little more difficult for maintenance but it is not impossible to keep its edge on a strope.The sheath rattles a little but I like the release mechanism.

Fit and finish are good, design and sheath are top notch. Blade arrived surprisingly dull. VERY unlike Kabar.
