KS2076: 2076 Strata KVT Folding Knife

Kershaw Knives

Inspired by Spanish Navaja knives, the Strata transforms this traditional style into a modern design. In 19th century Spain, Navaja knives were adapted as defensive fighting tools for working-class citizens. Today, the Strata can be used for everyday tasks. It opens easily with KVT ball bearings, while the 4.5-inch D2 blade edge offers generous, long-lasting cutting ability. A G10 front handle scale provides extra grip during use. Despite its large size, the single-position deep-carry pocket clip keeps the Strata discreet during travel. Matching copper anodized tube spacers and a pivot cap add an extra bit of flair to this modern take on a Spanish classic.

  • Matching copper anodized tube spacers and pivot cap; deep-carry pocket clip keeps the large profile discreet in pocket

Well done
The biggest blade my hand size can operate while still feeling nimble. Blade heavy compared to the handle, but it balances right the natural index finger placement. Flips really well. Very little wrist action needed for a blade this size. Milling along the spine makes it seem more refined, delicate but not fragile. Copper accents with some extra detail work on the side you'll most often see. Frame lock with an overtravel stop. A G 10 scale milled just to the edge of vibrating like cheap plastic, but not quite over the line. When closing, the blade doesn't drop so fast you can't get your fingers out of the way. And the best thing about it, it sings. If you open and close it slowly, parts of it will ring like a tuning fork. Right at the point of lockup, and again when the blade closes into the detent. It doesn't ring for long. Just long enough to give you a nice feeling of satisfaction.

Difficult Flipper
I purchased the Strata as a work knife of sorts. Our family summer vacation proved successful in getting some really nice blue gill and several large channel cats. I have the job of cleaning the fish and I'm disappointed in the poor quality steel in the filet knives I own. I wanted a fair size blade with D2 steel to hold up cleaning fish. The Strata, being a frame lock and being thin makes it difficult to grasp the knife without putting pressure on the lock. I couldn't budge the flipper at all till I realized the issue. I'm not using the knife for defense but be aware of the issue if that is your intended use. I'm keeping the knife as I like the design and the blade takes a wicked edge.

Not bad (Knocked a point off for tiny flipper)
Nice knife overall. I have large hands and the handle fits nicely. My only gripe is the tiny flipper. The 2075 has a larger flipper that is really nice. With this longer blade, you really need to strike that little flip quite hard and that gets old. Other than that...Very nice purchase on sale.
