KS8100: 8100 Funxion EMT, Black FRN

Kershaw Knives

The Funxion EMT offers a selection of key functions that can make all the difference in an emergency situation.

Thanks to SpeedSafe assisted opening, the blade is open and ready to help instantly. A quick pull back on the ambidextrous flipper or push on the thumb stud and the blade is ready for use, right now. The big, drop-point blade is ideal for taking on a wide variety of everyday and not-so-everyday cutting tasks. The 8Cr13MoV blade steel offers excellent wear resistance, toughness, and edge retention. A separate locking liner secures the main blade and the tool. The partially serrated blade can cut through webbing to free trapped accident victims. The cord cutter makes quick work of nylon cording. There's a hex bolt wrench and a screwdriver tip built into the cord cutter arm. A carbide glass breaker tip can help get you out of a tough situation.

The Funxion EMT's fiberglass reinforced nylon handle is tactical, lightweight, and sturdy. Features Kershaw's K-Texture™ on the handle to provide an extra secure grip. The Funxion EMT comes with Kershaw's deep-carry clip for secure pocket carry—or clip it just about anywhere with the built-in carabiner, which also locks into position when opened.

Great Multi-tool
Received it razor-sharp and it still holds that edge surprisingly well. It was great to have at work since you can hang it from almost anything and I wear gloves so the carabiner made it easy to access. I took it to the woods on a trip and used it to carve a spear. The fine edge held up perfectly but the serrations all folded. It wasn't a big deal to reset them but it lost the pointy tips. The serrations are still sharp and work fine but suffered aesthetically. Also, the assisted opening mechanism wore out quickly and it opens much slower than in the beginning, so, that bothers me a little. I feel like I don't ever really own the knife if I have to return it for replacement or repair over something like that, so I don't know. If not for that I'd given it more stars.

Pros: Ease of Opening, Handle Material, Pocket Clip, Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness
Cons: None
Great versatility
This Funxion goes above and beyond, having a screwdriver, hex bit, carabiner, and, bottle opener. It also has spring assisted opening, which, is great when I'm wearing gloves. The carabiner is great for that too; I can carry it on a belt loop and not have to remove my gloves to fish it out of my pocket.Excellent all-around value. It easily meets my minimum requirements for a decent edc, which, is that it must have at least serrations, a glass-breaker, and, strap-cutter.I'm impressed with the fine edge; out of the box razor sharp and even after hacking a branch into a spear I barely had to touch it up. The serrations did suffer a little, but, were easily fixed. They did not take their original shape but this is normal for serrations on any knife. I believe that by "breaking them in", they get stronger if that makes sense, at least in my experience.I have been using it daily for several months and it continues to be my most versatile tool.

EDC so far
First kershaw ever owned, I use This thing for everything that needs cutting as a every day carry bottle opener and everything. Would have been cool though if the seat belt cutter would have Been placed on the outside or placed somewhere more accessible, the blade material used for this loses it edge very quickly and has to maintained often, It be interesting to see a remake of this knife.
