KUV2742A6: V2742A6 Vanguard Microbe Folding Knife - Thumb Studs/Vortex Micarta

Kizer Cutlery

The Microbe is a compact, personality-packed EDC designed by Maksim Epifantsev with the kind of thoughtful restraint that separates a novelty-sized knife from a serious daily tool. Everything about it feels intentional, from the clean drop point blade that’s ready for real cutting work to the smooth, controlled action delivered through the thumb studs and button liner lock.

What really sets the Microbe apart is its balance. It’s small enough to disappear in the pocket yet substantial enough in hand to inspire confidence. The blue Vortex Micarta handle adds visual punch without sacrificing comfort, offering a lightweight, rigid platform that feels refined rather than flashy. The flat-ground blade excels at everyday utility tasks, slicing cleanly and predictably with no wasted motion. This is a knife for users who appreciate smart design over excess - a modern EDC that proves compact doesn’t have to mean compromised. Clean, capable, and quietly distinctive, the Microbe punches well above its size class.

Vanguard Series

The Vanguard Series brings excellent value to high-quality designs. Since the start of Kizer Cutlery, they have focused on the high end of the knife market with their impeccable quality and premium materials. This has earned them a place in the hearts of their fans. To increase the accessibility of Kizer brand products, they took the designs of the Bladesmith and Prime Series, and while keeping the quality at the same high level, re-forged them using materials that bring extra value for the money spent. Kizer uses only materials that have stellar performance, such as VG10 for the blades and G10 or stainless steel for the handles. This way, Kizer products are available at all budget levels but still maintain that incredible quality of construction.

Tools share a common goal and purpose. That purpose is performance, reliable to the end. Kizer brings you the Vanguard Series created with the purpose of distilling the essence of the Bladesmith and Prime Series into tools that excel in being used. This may not be your only knife, but this will be the knife you carry and use every day!

Well Made Tiny Novelty Knife
I own over 20 Kizer knives and when I saw this cute Kizer Microbe with the new button liner lock and the blue vortex micarta handles with the thumb stud opening, I immediaterly bought one. I preferred this model because it had the thumb stud opener rather than the finger hole opener for quickness and ease of opening. I also preferred this version because of the micarta handles, over the aluminum handles because I find aluminum handles more slipperty in the hand. In my medium size female hand (the width of my four fingers together is 2.5 inches), the blade is fairly easy to deploy with care with the thumb stud and easy to close (or open) with the button liner lock but I can't see a man with medium to large hands having the ease of use I have when opening and closing this knife because its cramped to open and close it even in my hand. To open up this blade, I have to curl my hand, use my thumb and top two fingers, and choke up on this knife to blade to open and close it, which I don't have to do with regular sized pocket knives with thumb studs, an axis or button lock, which touch all five of my fingers. One of my favorite small knives is the Civivi Baby Banter, but this knife is even smaller in the hand. To me this knife is pocket jewelry knife and is more a looker than a user EDC knife but I like it as a novelty knife. Don't get my wrong, the blade is sharp and functional and I can curl all four of my fingers around the handle with my index finger carefully in the finger choil, but I have to concentrate to open and close the blade because of its 'microbe' size to ensure sure I don't knick my fingers or drop it.
