Marttiini Knives
The Lynx was the first knife to be made by Marttiini, and it's been in continuous production since the factory's very beginning. The Lynx was awarded the "Best Product" award at the Viipuri Fair in 1932. The main characteristic that makes the Lynx popular is the blade's curve. The slightly upturned blade tip makes it easier for skinning and to lift to a hot kettle from the camp fire. The blade has a protective satin finish and comes inscribed with "J. Marttiini, Finland" on the blade flat. The Lynx features a brass bolster, a pommel and a leather sheath. The design and decorations on the sheath also reflect their strong Lappish traditions. Lynx knives continue to be manufactured to the original Marttiini design.
The stainless steel used by Marttiini is an easy-to-treat blade material that maintains its sharpness for a long time. The portion of chrome in the steel blend is 13% and the hardness is 53-54 on the Rockwell scale (HRC).
Knife sheaths are still mostly made by hand. Each sheath must be exactly the designed size and appearance so that it forms a perfect couple with the knife. The surface finishing may also include varnish that increases its dash and protects the sheath from dirt and moisture.
