First of all, if you've never had a front flipper, it's going to take more than a little time to master opening it. I've seen three ways. One is to use your thumb and middle finger to start the blade and finish opening it with your thumb. It's slow and, you don't get that satisfying "thwack" but, it works. This is the easiest. Then, there's the thumb flip. Just grip the knife with your fingers and use your thumb to flip it open. It takes a few tries but, then you'll be opening it like you want about 80% of the time and, you get the "thwack". This is the second easiest way but, it's fast. The third way is, the forefinger flip. Grasp the knife with your thumb and all fingers but your forefinger. Place your forefinger across the jimping and flip it. It sounds easy but it's not. I've had this knife for about two weeks and, I'm only at about 10%. When I get it, I get the "thwack" but, for me it's awkward and hard. It's going to take a while for me. The quality is surprising. I really like it. I love the steel, blade shape, length, handle material, handle feel, sharpness, and the pocket clip. The jimping is, not aggressive enough, in my opinion but, I can live with it, even though it's pretty slick if there's any moisture on your finger. That is my one complaint. Overall, this is a nice little knife. One day, I WILL get the forefinger flip. Back in the 70's, I learned to thumb flick the Buck 110 so, I can get the forefinger flick worn with this. If you're old, you'll understand.
