Randall's Adventure Training has been designing, marketing, and selling survival and military-style knives since their first survival courses in the Amazon Jungle of Peru. One of their first designs was the RTAK which was built by Newt Livesay's Wicked Knife Company before Ontario Knife Company produced the design. ESEE also produced and sold the RAT skinning/survival knife made by John Greco and the RAT Laser Strike knife made by TOPS (ESEE has since re-introduced the Laser Strike as an ESEE knife). Randall's Adventure Training also designed the following knives for Ontario Knife Company: RTAK II, TAK, RAT-7, RAT-5, RAT-3, Model 1 folder and the Model 2 folder.
The Ontario RAT Model 2 from Randall's Adventure Training is a scaled down of the wildly popular RAT-1. It's another folding EDC knife that can withstand hard use and abuse associated with hunting or survival tasks. For the money, there might not be a better knife on the market that can match the performance of Ontario Knife Company's RAT Model 2. It features an ergonomic handle with smooth action and rock-solid lockup. The four-position pocket clip allows the user to customize their carry method to their liking. We absolutely love the off-set blade from the handle, which gives this knife a rare and unique look that distinguishes this knife from all the rest. If you are looking to add a new knife to your EDC rotation (or you think it would make a great fit for a survivalist, hunter, backpacker, or friend), rest assured you're making the right choice when you go with an Ontario RAT Model 2. This RAT 2 features a tough blade made from D2, an air hardened tool steel with high wear and abrasion resistant properties.
I'm not a fan of all rats but I am a fan of the Ontario RATs. I've had this one for a while and love it. I bought another one in a dark green handle and love it (using one for work and the other for home EDC), currently ordering one with a black handle. I've gotten the RAT 1 and the RAT 3 fixed blade. These D2 steel are fantastic. After purchasing this Tan RAT 2 I bought variety of other knives in the D2. No complaints with any of them. These RATs are good solid knives, great feel, sharp. I'm looking at the coyote brown handle RAT 2. Lol. I'm also liking the hiking knife Ontario currently has in the black/brown Micarta handle. To sum this up I'm happy with D2 steel and happy with Ontario.
Ontario RAT Model 2 Folding Knife 3.0" D2 Satin Plain Blade, Desert Tan Nylon Handles
I've been using this at work for the last few weeks and love it. I didn't like the color but in person it's great, especially with a new black cerakote clip. I use it to cut roots, plastic, corrugated pvc, and other water industry materials. The QC is good and the action, size, and blade are as good as I was hoping. Would definitely purchase again.

Pros: Handle Material, Blade Material
Cons: None
Great minimalist, hard-use, 3" folder.
This exceeded my expectations, and is taking the place of a Spy---co Nat-ve 5 Lightweight (S30V) in my small collection. The Rat 2 in D2 is less than 1/2 the price of the other knife, and is more robust with the metal internals. The desert tan is even better looking in real life--it has less of an orange tint than in the photo, and the contrast with the black clip is sharp. The action is smooth and the lockup is tight. It even has a sharpening choil, something even far more expensive knives lack. It was razor sharp out of the box. Don't know whether D2 is hard to sharpen like many say, but even if it was my opinion of the knife wouldn't change. I plan to use this knife while hunting and for other outdoor pursuits.
