Spartan Blades

The Spartan-George V14 Dagger is Spartan Blades first collaboration with the gifted and prolific knife maker, Les George. Daggers have come to symbolize the elite of our military special operations units and intelligence agencies, since the forming of the OSS. Spartan wanted to take a classic profile and improve it with better materials and thoughtful design. A full-tang design along with the 0.25" precision ground thickness makes for a very reliable blade. After hollow grinding 4 very symmetrical bevels, each blade is vacuum heat treated, double deep cryogenically treated and double tempered to add to edge retention and toughness, thus curing a problem that has plagued past military daggers. The ergonomic and textured handle is specifically designed with comfort and confident grip. The handle is a divergence from tradition as it is oblong with flats on each side to assist in the indexing / use of the knife during hours of limited visibility. This is a real combat dagger! Both edges come sharpened.

Daggers aren’t supposed to have particularly sharp edges.
Once again kids. Daggers do not have razor edges. It is a penetrating knife, period. If you’re slashing with your dagger, you’re doing it wrong. Aside from dispatching sentries, it has little practical use. If you just enjoy daggers and would like to add one to your collection, you’ve come to the right place as this is a magnificent example of the species. Stout, well made with excellent fit and finish.

Don't listen to the uneducated.
This is one of the best daggers on the market, for looks and for function. The people who came here to review, saying that the dagger isn't sharp enough, don't know what the purpose of a dagger is. A dagger is a weapon and a weapon only, it is also not a slashing weapon. A dagger is for stabbing only. Daggers are traditionally less sharp to avoid biting into bones as they enter flash. Some edge is good to split fabric and flash, but too much and it won't deflect off hard elements and will prevent deep penetration. Don't listen to the mall ninjas that are buying a blade to be used for anything other than its designed purpose. The blade is sharp enough to cut, but it's not a razor. The finish and design are excellent and worth the cost. If you want a long knife that's going to be razor sharp, get something else.

Good for one purpose only, which isn’t good for a combat knife
This knife is good for only one purpose, stabbing. The point is terrific. The problem is, IMHO, a combat knife needs to slash also. I’d read a review where some dude was able to get an edge on the rest of the blade…. I’d like to know where, because my ‘sharpening guy’ tried and couldn’t do it, and he’s done damn good work for me in the past. The edge won’t cut paper, confident it won’t do well on flesh/clothing.An additional problem is the sheath. The sheath quality is great…. But the knife makes an audible *click* when you pull and insert it. No covertly drawing this knife.I want to love it, but cant. It’ll hang it up on the wall or something… definitely wouldn’t carry it into battle.
