SOGFF1001: FF1001 Salute Mini

SOG

Designed as a compact discreet pocket knife, the Salute Mini is still capable of delivering big time. Thanks to an easy opening blade that snaps to attention and a G10 handle that's easy to hold, the Salute Mini is ready to be deployed at a moment's notice.

The SOG Salute Mini is an acknowledgment that great design can still be affordable with a little perseverance. For a refreshed look, the handles are machined G10 with scalloped full-length steel liners. In addition to the detailed handle, the Salute Mini is completed with a strong lockback mechanism, smooth opening and operation, and a proven Bowie-style blade. To accommodate for different users, the adjustable thumb stud can adapt to various hands and thumbs, allowing the user to find the ideal fit for them. Equipped with a removable low-carry pocket clip, the Salute is a great tactical folder for everyday use.

Nice little EDC; great value
The grip of this knife is one of the most solid and hot-spot free of the small folders I've tried or owned. I have very large mitts, and this thing has such good ergonomics that it's nevertheless comfortable for me.I own a number of high-end folders, many with exotic or 'super steel' blades, and I don't feel like I'm coming up short when I carry this one. Yes, it doesn't hold an edge like SV30/SV35/Elmax etc., but it does fine and is a lot easier to sharpen. Perfectly fine for an occasional use EDC that isn't getting constant hard use (unlike, say, a shop knife). The ability to move the thumb stud is very helpful, especially if you have very large or very small hands--you can get it in just the right sweet spot for quick one-handed deployment. This one will deploy the same for lefties as for righties; the stud and relief in the G10 handles is the same on both sides. The pocket clip comes righty, but is moveable for lefty, both tip-up only. The clip is a little unique; it doesn't fasten to the flat surface of the knife's G10 scales, but instead goes over the end of the scale and inserts behind it on one side, at the butt of the knife. It's held in place with a screw that you can get to right through an opening in the clip itself. This results in the lowest pocket carry I've seen in a folder; it disappears except for the small gunmetal grey amount of clip on the outside of your pocket. Nice! VERY clever clip design. Not the lightest small carry I've used, but not distracting. Rides in the pocket unobtrusively and doesn't feel heavy. It is just heavy enough to feel substantial in the hand. While this is the baby brother to the SOG Salute tactical, this is solid enough to do in a pinch as a tactical folder. The back lock is solid and works in the usual manner for a backlock folder. Not overly stiff, not too loose. You do have to like the name "SOG" if you buy this knife, however--it's emblazoned in relatively large letters on the clip and on both sides of the knife! On the G10 sides, it's actually part of the texturing. GREAT grip on this knife between the G10, ergonomics, and nice balance point (front finger choil). The blade arrives reasonably sharp, although I took it up a couple of notches...I like my EDCs to be quite sharp. At this price point, it's hard not to recommend this one. The only downside for me is that it's undoubtedly made in China instead of the US (although the word "China" isn't anywhere on the knife or the blade that I can see).
