Description

SP41GPDBL5: C41GPDBL5 Native 5 Dark Blue G10

Spyderco

This expression of the Native 5 combines an ultra-high-performance CPM S110V blade with textured G10 handle scales in the signature dark blue color that characterizes Spyderco's elite S110V family of knives.

Since its original release in 1997, the Native has been a mainstay of the Spyderco product line and a flagship of Spyderco's American-made stable of knives. The design has evolved steadily over the years, reaching its current state-of-the-art in 2012 with the release of the Native 5. This addition to the Native lineage combines the Native 5's engineering refinements with dark blue G10 handles.

Proudly manufactured in Spyderco's factory in Golden, Colorado, the Native 5 features a spear point blade made from premium CPM-S110V stainless steel. Its full-flat grind, distal taper, textured index-finger choil and thumb ramp, and understated swedge collectively offer a distinctive appearance and outstanding edge geometry and point utility. The blade is supported by a highly refined back lock mechanism that takes this time-tested lock design and elevates it to a new standard of engineering and manufacturing excellence.

The G10 handle houses four sets of threaded inserts molded directly into the G10. These allow the improved hourglass clip to be positioned for left or right-side tip-up or tip-down carry. A generously sized lanyard hole also provides a handy attachment point for lanyards, fobs and safety lines.

A highly advanced evolution of a time-honored design, the Native 5 Lightweight is an incredibly capable, pocket-sized cutting tool and a shining example of Spyderco's commitment to making even our best products consistently better.

Beautiful Little Knife
The knife is smaller than I expected but that just adds to its pocket friendliness. The fit and finish are amazing and "burple" has to be one of the best scale colors ever. Also, I may be old-school, but I really prefer a back lock to most other lock types.

Way excellent
I con ease of opening because for me it is slow roll as opposed to flick opening. And for me, one handed closing isn't a breeze. The handle feels great, puts my fingers where they seem to belong, the jimping top and bottom says stability. The pocket clip is just a bit of a hot spot, but not much because the body is thin and flat, the palm of my hand seeming to bend until I don't really feel it and my grip seems the best it could be.

A big step up from all the other cheap stuff I've carried
I've owned this knife for a little over two years now. It's been my EDC for most of that. The S110V lives up to its name regarding edge-holding, since I've only had to do minor touch up to the blade in that time. Definitely better than 440C, any of the Cold Steel knives I've had, or any carbon steel blade I've owned. That said, I haven't abused the edge with cutting lots of cardboard and similar stuff. It came sharp but not hair-popping scary sharp. I'm very pleased with it. The only con is that the clip snapped off a few weeks ago when it got caught as I was getting out of the truck.
