Spyderco Knives

Spyderco's Stretch 2 XL Lightweight revolutionized the concept of the ultra-lean “magnum-sized” folding knife. For those who prefer a bit more heft, this expression of the Stretch 2 XL design swaps the original injection-molded handle for precision-machined gray G10 scales. The scales feature a peel-ply texture for a non-slip grip and are supported by skeletonized stainless steel liners and a stainless backspacer. They also house threaded inserts that allow the fully configurable attachment of a four-position pocket clip. Equally unique, the full-flat-ground blade of this knife is crafted from CPM CRU-WEAR—a specially formulated air-hardening tool steel enhanced by the Crucible Particle Metallurgy (CPM) process that offers superior wear resistance, excellent toughness, and an ultra-fine, extremely homogeneous grain structure. The PlainEdge blade of this knife is full-flat ground and satin finished for low-friction cutting performance and proudly features a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole for swift, ambidextrous, one-handed opening.

Arguably the best lockback in the Spyderco catalog
Up until the Nishijin sprint run version of this model caught my eye, no product in the Spyderco lineup really appealed to me. For the most part, there would always be some feature that would keep me from the purchase, and most of the designs look pretty much the same. The Nishijin version was my first exposure to the Stretch 2 XL model in general, and I loved it so much, I decided to buy the "user-friendly" G10/CruWear variant. Why would I argue that this is the best knife Spyderco ever designed (at least as far as the lockbacks go)? It has a straight spine (no curved spine or rounded tip), the best blade-to-handle ratio, and the best handle shape that's just aesthetically pleasing and molds to your hand.I guess the QC/F&F is pretty run-of-the-mill for any other Japanese Spyderco; you might get a slightly off-center blade, or an uneven edge grind, but not to the point where it would warrant a serious complaint. As far as value is concerned, I'll just say this; It's nearly the same price as the full-size manual Benchmade Adamas, which features the exact same materials - CruWear, G10 scales, and steel liners. It's a beefier knife that's made here in the U.S. while this Stretch XL is made in Japan, so it's just something to think about. All that being said, I will still hold that this is one of, if not the best, design(s) that Spyderco has ever released as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't mind seeing KnifeCenter release an exclusive variant with the Pakkawood scales.

My Holy Grail Spyderco
This knife is quietly one of the best in Spyderco’s lineup in my opinion . I am a Landscaper who uses and abuses my knife daily . From 1990 -2015 I happily carried a stainless steel Delica with combo blade that I was completely happy with ( actually one from 1990-2005 and a second one 2005-15).When that second one ended - I went looking for a replacement - and found Spyderco’s options had exploded and I found KnifeCenter( both bad for my bank account ) . Combined with a higher budget , this led to a three year period of purchasing and test driving knives in search of perfection . ( Para 3 , Para 2, Native , Shaman , SpydieChef , Caribbean ,..). This knife is the one to rule them all for me . One of my favorite steels , a solid backlock that I can open with one hand due to smooth action , chamfered G10 that is better in hand than the blocky G10 on Para 2 or Para3 ,4” blade , narrow in pocket , enough room for my big hands on the scaies OR I can choke up on choil if desired . Excellent build quality - nice smooth glassy action from the start . I could have been happy with Para 2 or Caribbean as runner ups , but this knife is the perfect fit for me .

Really Good!
Wow, this Stretch XL CruWear is really good! The Stretch 2 K390 is one of my favorite knives, because of it I’ve always wanted to try out the Stretch XL. The XL does not disappoint and I’m glad I waited for this version. Spyderco does a great job with their CruWear and the CruWear in my Stretch XL is excellent. The bigger size fits my hands and use very well. The build quality on mine is excellent and the hand feel is excellent with the G10 scales and stainless steel handle. Very smooth action and a great factory edge - awesome knife. No problems so far! Only con is it’s a bit expensive, but i’m complaining about that with everything these days. If you like the Police 4 K390 with g10 or wood scales chances are you will like this Stretch XL too! Very happy I took a chance and ordered this version - I’d do it again! LOL
