Spyderco

Another addition to Spyderco's growing family of knives featuring high-performance CPM S110V blade steel: the UK Penknife Lightweight CPM S110V. Originally developed specifically for the British knife market, the UK Penknife was the original SLIPIT -- a breed of folding knife that combines their Trademark Round Hole for one-handed opening, a reversible deep-pocket wire clip for convenient carry and a notched-joint non-locking spring mechanism. These features allow it to offer the same ease of carry and one-handed opening as the CLIPIT knives, but in a legally permissible non-locking format in many jurisdictions. Please check your local knife laws for specifics.

CPM S110V is an extremely advanced, ultra-high carbon stainless steel enriched with vanadium, niobium, molybdenum and cobalt. Produced by Crucible's particle metallurgy process to lock the qualities of its alloy composition, it offers superior wear resistance, corrosion resistance and edge holding qualities compared to other commercially available steels.

Spyderco has worked hard to master the processes of working with this demanding material and is proud to offer one of the broadest selection of CPM S110V knives in the industry. This elite expression of the UK Penknife takes full advantage of the remarkable properties of this steel to provide exceptional cutting performance, edge retention and corrosion resistance. Like the other members of Spyderco's CPM S110V family, its injection-molded fiberglass reinforced nylon handle is a rich dark blue color that proudly announces its pedigree. If you're looking for the ultimate cutting performance in a non-locking folder, look no further.

Pros: Weight, Blade Material, Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Weight, Handle Feel, Lock Ease of Use, Lock Type
Not a lock blade
Great steel, but it is a slip joint knife and they do not mention that. You are expected to know what UK knife laws are and it does not lock. I slipped and cut myself because it came back on me.

Great Knife
This is my first Spyderco knife and I am really happy with it. I am in the UK and wanted a legal EDC. After much research, I decided to go with the UKPK. It was only a little bit more money to get the upgraded steel (S110V), so I went for it. I can't comment on the regular edition, but this came out the box extremely sharp and is clearly very high quality. When opened, the knife sits well in the hand and has great ergonomics. It is truly one handed opening, which is great. The clip is deep, but it is not very tense, so, combined with the super-light weight, special care does need to be taken. It actually fell out of my pocket when adjusting my jacket. The jacket hem caught the bottom of the clip and pulled it out of my jeans. It's so light it would be easy to not notice if it did fall out. My jeans have an extra internal pocket, so I now keep it in that to avoid any risk of the clip catching on anything and getting pulled out of my pocket. The clip is good, but because it is not very tense, I'm going to mark it in the cons. The other con is the handle material. It's not really bad, but it is kind of cheap feeling and certainly isn't a pro. Other than that, it's the perfect knife for me. The only other thing I would mention is the tension when closing it. It doesn't take too much force to close. If that is a concern I would recommend the Boker or Lansky UK legal knives. But, I prefer the ease of opening (those knifes are a nightmare on a cold day with wet hands or gloves on) and the finger choil makes up for any lack of stiffness of the slipjoint. In fact, I'd prefer a weak slipjoint and finger choil than tough backspring and no choil. Also, the steel on those is not even worthy of comparison with S110V on this. I haven't done any heavy duty work with the knife yet, but the choil is well designed, really comfortable and (when held properly) makes it next to impossible to close the knife on yourself. There were customs charges to pay, but it still worked out significantly cheaper than buying it here in the UK (about $50). All in all, I am super happy with my purchase.
