Fallkniven

The design of this beautiful hunting knife follows the basic principles of Swedish minimalism — that the design should be simple, neat and functional. To this minimalist foundation, Fallkniven utilized their laminated cobalt steel, which is known for its ability to take and keep an excellent edge. The handles are made from desert ironwood, an extremely hard and compact wood, so dense that it does not float in water. It can be treated with any kind of furniture polish, gun stock oil or other liquids containing thinner and linseed oil. Should the knife happen to get dull, use Fallkniven's DC4 combination whetstones. A black, low-hanging leather sheath houses the knife when not in use.

In the ancient AESIR folk story, the gods Odin, Höner (Vile) and Lodur (Ve) created the first people from two tree trunks which they found on the seashore. The first tree trunk was an ash, and was therefore named Ask, the other was an elm and was named Embla which means Little Elm. Odin gave life to them, Höner gave them understanding and agility, Lodur provided them with emotions and minds. They made their home in Midgård — the Norse name for Earth.

The name Embla is very old and can first be found in Swedish Viking times around 700 to 1100 AD. The Viking women were the equals of their men and followed them on their voyages. The Vikings were feared for their prowess at combat, but respected law and order, offering protection for the women of their communities, and the orderly conduct of their parliament. To this day, about 1500 Swedish women are named Embla. The name is mentioned in the Edda, a collection of mythological and heroic poems which are more than a thousand years old.

Exactly What You Expect
This is a show knife that can be used, simple as. The desert ironwood is gorgeous, while super comfortable and functional. The fit and finish is perfect, the satin blade is just flawless, lamination lines and all. This blade is classic Fallkniven, thick at the spine, and tapering to a perfect convex that is stupidly sharp. Cos steel does not disappoint, takes a lovely fine edge, and responds to stropping very well. All in all, a knife that looks like it belongs in a display case, but I will have no issues taking on my tramping expeditions!

Beautiful yet functional.
This is my EDC and I don’t plan on retiring it anytime soon. The COS steel is fantastic and the desert ironwood handle is simply beautiful. Don’t let the good looks fool you, it’s rugged and capable enough to handle the toughest jobs. Sharpening is fairly easy and it takes a wicked sharp edge. My only complaint, and this is strictly preference, the dangler sheath hangs too low for me. I bought an F1 leather sheath for it and it suites my needs perfectly. Most folks would prefer the dangler sheath, I simply don’t like it. Like I said, it’s a preference thing and really doesn’t have anything to do with how freakin awesome this knife is. The only way to make it even more awesome would be if they included a DC4 like they do for the pro series. If you’re on the fence, just buy it, you won’t be disappointed.
