Description

BGBBR2: BBR2 IKBS Frame Lock

Bastinelli Creations

The Bastinelli BBR2 is definitely a design to consider when looking for a new knife, no matter the applications you're looking to address. Like the popular Dragotac models, you're getting a full length cutting edge to maximize the amount of usable blade you get in this knife. Measuring in at 3.25" of D2 tool steel, the blade is placed, in relation to the handle, in a superb cutting position for slicing. The blade shape is a modified drop point with characteristics of a spear point design giving you identical amounts of steel on the sharpened and unsharpened sides near the tip, providing strength and increased stabbing capabilities. The handle is ergonomically comfortable and the edges are rounded to minimize hot spots which this knife creates very few of anyways. Its got buttery smooth action thanks to the excellent IKBS system and features very functional jimping on the thumb ramp. The secondary jimping near the tip is a great idea but could use slightly better execution as it's relatively rounded and not ideal for wet or bloody applications. Ergonomically and visually, this is a stunning knife and the quality, being made by LionSteel (2014 BLADE Show manufacturing quality award winner), is definitely award worthy. You won't be sorry you added this knife to your collection, not one bit.

Pros: Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Handle Feel, Handle Material, Lock Type, Overall Quality, Sheath, Weight
Cons: Ease of Opening, Lock Ease of Use, Pocket Clip
Great and terrible at the same time
This knife has a comfortable handle and a nicely finished blade. The blade spine is rounded, it looks and feels great. The handle is nicely contoured, and the overall design is great for cutting things on a flat surface. The bronze color is nice in-person and the overall finish on both sides looks great. The jimping is great as well, especially the one closer to the tip. That's where the good things end. The thumb studs, are not finished at all and are rather rough (almost sharp). It is quite hard to thumb-flick for me (I flick open knives as a hobby, so my fingers are quite strong). Surprisingly, it is much easier to reverse-flick it using the middle finger. The lockbar has no insert, and the knife has a persistent lock stick. The pocket clip sits directly on the lockbar and adds quite a lot to the overall lock tension. The screws on the clip are positioned such that some of them seat on the bending portion of it. That, too, adds a lot of tension. Due to this and the lockstick, it is pretty hard to disengage the lock. The heel of the blade is weird and you'd need to be careful not to get a cut while closing the knife. Overall, I would not recommend this knife in its current form. Would this be an awesome knife if the manufacturer addressed these issues? Absolutely!
