The Boker Plus Kwaiken Air Cocobolo by Lucas Burnley extends the dynasty of the successful Kwaiken family by an elegant lightweight version. With its straightforward and practical shape, this modern pocket knife has become a true icon. The clean lines and slim design of this model have been further optimized to achieve an uncompromising reduction in weight, although the knife still holds the complete blade when closed. The flipper provides intuitive operation and additional safety, while the liner lock securely locks the VG-10 ball bearing blade with a satin-finished Hairline finish. The light-footedness of the Gentleman Folder is underlined by the handle scales in fine cocobolo wood and the removable deep carry clip (tip-up/r). I picked this up for the slim form factor, and the nice overall look. And indeed, it’s nice to look at, it’s well put together, has a nice blade with a good factory edge, and the action is fine. However, it’s major flaw is the liners. The wood scales are substantially smaller than the liner (shadow boxed), so the steel liners are most of what is felt when holding it, and no attempt was made to smooth any of the liner edges. They are cut perfectly square all around, and there is actually a quite sharp corner where the liner lock is cut out. The result is a knife that is pretty cheap feeling, and frankly uncomfortable in the hand. While I realize this isn’t a pricey knife, a little bit of rounding on the liner edges would improve the knife 100%. Civivi does that well at this price point, so there is little excuse for it not to be done here.

I want to love it, but....
I used to own the Boker Urban Trapper that inspired this purchase. Because the trailing point blade is my favorite blade type when I saw this I knew I had to have it. Unfortunately, when I got it it seemed a little unrefined. As soon as I took it in hand I noticed it has a few rough edges. The frame, the scales, and even the liner lock are rougher than the Urban Trapper. The pocket clip, nor the frame appear to be to be titanium like the Urban Trapper which kind of takes away from the look and makes it feel a little heavier. For such a thin knife I expected it to be lighter. The liner lock seems to lock at fifty percent. No blade play in any direction. Deep carry pocket clip. If it wears like the Urban Trapper it will easily become my EDC of choice, but only time will tell. The question I have is if I still had the Urban Trapper would I keep this one? Honestly? The weight saving titanium could be the keystone to the preference. I'll get back to you and let you know.... Thanks for taking the time to ready this.
