Boker Knives

Responsible for search and rescue on the North Sea and Baltic Sea - around the clock and in all types of weather. That is what sea rescuers do. No heroes, but professionals - so modest, and at the same time their motto means being strict towards themselves.

Since its foundation over 158 years ago, the official legal name has been the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS). The Federal Republic of Germany has entrusted this society with the sovereign task of maritime search and rescue services in the North Sea and Baltic Sea areas. Today, they guarantee one of the most modern and professional maritime rescue services in the world. The primary goal is the fast and effective rescue of human lives. To keep this goal free from external influence and other interests, the sea rescuers have relied on independence from the very beginning and deliberately refrained from using public funds. Funding is based exclusively on voluntary donations. The rescue of human lives at the risk of their own lives is mainly carried out by volunteer sea rescuers.

In close cooperation with these offshore professionals, Boker developed the Boker Plus Seenotretter 01, which meets the high requirements on the high seas. As a classic no-nonsense tackle knife, it is aimed at professional and private users on maritime and inland waters or people who work a lot with ropes. It is made entirely of stainless steel. The main blade made of 1.4116 is equipped with a half wave to cut encrusted ropes and harnesses. The marlin spike (for untying hardened knots) also includes a shackle and a bottle opener. Both blades are held in place by a robust and dirt-resistant slipjoint system. For durability and reliability, solid domehead studs are used instead of screws. The front scale is embossed with the Hanseatic cross, the well-known logo of the sea rescuers. Carrying is made easier with a deep-carry clip (tip-up/r). A generously dimensioned cord eyelet protects against loss.

This is the nautical knife you want at sea.
I am writing this review to explain why this knife will perform well at sea.I have been at sea many times during sea trials. Sea trails are performed when all the equipment has been installed on your boat or ship, and you need to determine if everything will work as expected Everything that works fine at the dock, may eventually fail at sea.This Seenotretter knife was designed by people who know how dangerous and unpredictable the ocean can become.The domed rivets insure that the blades will never loosen up during times of stressful cutting. The knife blade does not need to lock. If your prop gets tangled in a fishing net at sea. You may have to get in the water to cut the net loose. The seenotretter has a sturdy bail which a Paracord lanyard can be attached to your belt. When the sea is very choppy, you can’t let an open knife blade hang loose from your belt. Having a blade lock might make it difficult to close your knife. I prefer a plain edge blade, however if I’m at sea, I want some serrations to cut synthetic lines quickly if an emergency arises.This knife was designed with function over form. Get it!

Seenotretter Knife is a very high quality maritime tool.
When I first saw this Seenotretter knife, I was curious about it, because of its association with the Die Seenotretter Maritime Rescue Service.I was fortunate to have served in the US Coast Guard, so I was very interested in the all volunteer German SAR Service. The fact that they are funded by donations is incredible!When I received the Seenotretter knife, I was very impressed with the excellent fit and finish of this knife. There is zero play in either direction of the blades.All the scale edges are chamfered and the domed rivets are perfectly peened.The blades have divots at the tang that lock in to the back springs, this prevents debris from entering the pivots when the blades are being used.The flat Marlin spike is different from the traditional ones, however with the curved tapered tip, it works better loosening stubborn knots than round marlin spikes.You insert the flat spike tip horizontally in to the knot, then turn it 90 degrees to vertical to open the knot. You can place the curved tip on a surface, then use leverage to open the knot with more force.I plan on ordering more of these incredible tools, as I can afford them.This is an actual professional grade maritime tool, that is also very collectible.
