For excursions that end with a cold one. Leave it to a designer from Oregon to create an everyday carry folding knife with hardworking outdoor capabilities and a bottle opener. From the trail to the taproom, the compact Bev-Edge Black is built to come up big in a pinch.
Inspired by his wild backyard and the craft beverages that helped put it on the map, designer Eric Ochs built the Bev-Edge Black with a pierce-through-food-packets Tanto blade and built-in bottle opener for cracking open a fireside craft beer. Using the flipper, the black stonewashed blade deploys swiftly and smoothly with IKBS thanks to lubed ball bearings in the pivot. It's also built with a thumb hole for a more deliberate, manual open. When deployed, the frame lock secures the blade in place. The black stonewashed stainless steel handle balances the look and resists wear.
Dig the Bev-Edge Black into a dusty backcountry adventure and wash it down with a craft brew.

Pros: Ease of Opening, Pocket Clip, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Handle Material, Lock Type
Handy little knife, flawed design
The overall design of the Bev-Edge is inferior to the Kershaw Shuffle for 3 main reasons. First: the addition of a flipper tab is counter-productive. The hole in the blade is perfect for thumb opening or middle finger flick, whereas the flipper tab is awkward to use, unreliable and simply unnecessary (it's a pocket-pecker).Second: this knife uses a frame-lock which makes closing the blade more difficult than if they'd used a liner lock. The pocket clip also pushes down on the frame-lock, making it even more awkward to use.Third: Because the Bev-Edge does not have a finger choil, it forces you to grip the handle with only 3 fingers. Despite being almost exactly the same size, the Shuffle's forward choil allows you to get a full grip on the knife and is ergonomically superior.Additionally: the steel handle makes the knife very heavy for its size. I like the tanto blade shape, but it's not as slicey as it could be due to the grind. One redeeming feature is the pocket clip which has inset screws that don't snag on the hem of your pocket. If you're looking for a small and inexpensive folder, skip this one and get the Shuffle. It's better in almost every way.

Pros: Ease of Opening, Pocket Clip
Cons: Weight, Lock Ease of Use
Good Little Knife
The best use for this little flipper is at a BBQ or a day at the beach or something. It's surprisingly heavy for such a small blade. Flipping action was tight when I received it and the blade was slightly off center - a pivot screw adjustment and some lube oil fixed that. I find the cutout to be better than the flipper for opening the blade (flicks pretty easy). Blade came reasonably sharp and the factory grind was pretty even. This is a 2.5 finger knife for me (L-XL sized gloves) as my ring finger gets on the grip but not comfortably so. The frame lock is really solid but difficult to release. The pocket clip is excellent but when carrying tip up the bottle opener hooks on my pocket almost every time I pull it out. Keep this in a backpack or around your grill or cooler and you'll do well
