A design collaboration between custom knifemaker Andrew Demko & Lynn C Thompson, the Ultimate Hunter represents the culmination of almost three years of design evolution. Exhaustively field tested on four continents - the Ultimate Hunter has proved its worth time and time again! Made from American S35VN stainless steel, the Ultimate Hunter is hand-ground to a razor edge that will last an amazingly long time. The heavily bead blasted, CNC machined G10 handles are comfortably smooth, while still giving a very secure, safe grip. Equipped with a super-strong Tri-Ad locking mechanism for extra safety, the Ultimate Hunter is a pure thoroughbred hunting/ outdoorsman's blade that also makes an excellent everyday carry knife - practical, functional and incredibly capable!
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
G10 Handles
Formed in a sheet under high pressure by combining fiberglass and an epoxy resin binder. These handles are lightweight and shaped to ensure a solid grip.
Lockback
The lockback system has been used for many decades. It can usually be found on the knife spine and it provides a strong lockup that will wear well.
S35VN Stainless Steel
An evolution of the popular S30V steel, S35VN offers a greater degree of toughness without much sacrifice in edge retention. Perfect for mid-range and premium knives.
This was purchased as an alternative to heavier knives for field dressing, skinning, and butchering white tail deer also for EDC. I think blade shape will be just fine for those uses. Ultimate Hunter is 5.0 oz on our digital kitchen scale, not featherweight as coveted by hardcore hikers and some others. Closed length five inches clipped into my pocket okay for my comfort. Can be opened one-handed if not lightning fast without practice. I like the orange grip's visibility, prominent guard, ambidextrous clip and finger grooves. Locks up very very solid. Right out of the box the tri-ad lock requires a good bit of pressure to release. Maybe it will wear in with time. As I first examined mine, it took me a while to get it unlocked. When it came loose the weight of the blade alone dropped the edge onto my index finger which was still around the grip, causing a minor but impressive cut given the short distance the edge traveled prior to contact. Hence the dad joke name Nick Pointer. Initial sharpness and blade heft definitely exceptional. I haven't used the knife enough yet to comment on edge retention but I'm optimistic that manufacturer's edge retention claims are valid since I'm able to confirm other advertising claims.
I've been wanting this knife since late 2000 and finally purchased it. This knife feels a lot lighter in the hand than my Cold Steel AD-10. I love the orange scales, the blade steel, which is S35vn, that cuts through cardboard like butter. What I don't like is knife doesn't slow roll out of the handle because its too stiff. I adjusted the pivot screw but slightly uncentered the knife. I am probably going to have to take the knife apart and oil the pivot. And like many triad locks, its hard to release the blade to close the knife. I have to press down hard and adjust the angle of my press to finally release the triad lock.
Got this because am a fan of orange. But besides the color, am totally blown away with the clean fit and finish top notch quality of this knife. Right off the bat when took out of the box I was floored at the perfection of how it feels, opens so smooth, and where the lockback you can open and close with one hand. Blade centering and everything on this knife is flawless! I have many other knives in my collection and this one right at the very top of the best of them! My friends that I showed this knife were all very impressed!
