To be honest I bought two of these for knife-sharpening practice when I was young and foolish a year ago, not realizing the scandi grind would seem a little strange and intimidating to a novice freehand sharpener. Got past that eventually and right now I'm converting one to a convex grind and giving the other to a buddy who does camping stuff with his youngest son. Obviously it's optimized for wood-carving but it would perform any outdoors task quite well. You could get five and put one in the basement workshop, another in the glove box, another in the utility drawer, anywhere you might want a nice little blade handy now and then. Nice and handy sheath too. There simply is no downside to these things. What are you waiting for? Would make a great stocking-stuffer for your outdoorsy peeps.
