FT12355: Bushcraft Pathfinder Black

Morakniv

This big fixed blade by Morakniv is a great addition to the Bushcraft family. The Pathfinder has a big 6-3/4" clip point blade. The carbon steel blade is coated specifically to keep the blade from corroding. The spine of the blade has been ground especially for use with a fire starter. Rubber handles ensure that the knife is grippy and comfortable in wet conditions. Jimping provides added grip in various carrying styles. This knife features a finger groove and at 5.9 ounces the Pathfinder feels great in your hands. Includes a M.O.L.L.E. compatible nylon sheath.

Morakniv is based in Ostnor Sweden, where knives have been crafted for over a century. Once they were made in every home by local craftsmen who passed down their skills from generation to generation. Today those skills are under one roof at Morakniv.

Incredible length to weight ratio
Pros:It's long - almost 7 inches. It's thin 1/8 inch. It has an incredibly acute point. It has a very comfortable rubberized handle that feels slightly "tacky".I was looking for a light but capable knife for backpack hunting and this one fits the bill. Something that I could use as a defensive weapon, process game, and use for light wood working tasks like making a tent stake if I lost one from my kit.Cons (kind of):The sheath is no doubt durable, but really only useful if you plan on attaching it to molle gear. I bought a kydex sheath to replace it. The knife does not come incredibly sharp. It does a have a micro secondary bevel.I own wet stones and actually enjoy sharpening my knives so this didn't really bother me. I took it from 100, to 400, to 1000 and its now probably the sharpest knife I own. You could call it hair-popping.Based on the molle sheath and the clip point I think this mora was intended to be more of a tactical knife. If weight and bulk is a concern I think its hard to beat. If your intention is to baton logs and hack branches off trees this is not the knife for you.

great knife holds up super well(like we see dave Canterbury do on yt).I just got it cause i live in hk so its think and so a bigger knife for cutting vines,bamboo,battoning and cutting down small thin trees is necessary.The pathfinder is no machete and does not have the best grined for chopping but does very well.I do pefer my bk7 but the mora is just a little cheeper.

It's a Leukus...
When this first came out, there was some controversy about why anyone would need a Mora this big, and why it cost so much.As far as it's size goes, it's the size of many other leuku type knives. The leuku is a knife that compliments a puukko (think Bushcraft Black).A leuku is a heavier knife used for shelter building, butchering larger animals, and preparing fuel to build a fire.This leaves the puukko for lighter, finer tasks.Most Leukus are wood handled, with rat-tail tangs. This Mora is built just as strong, if not stronger than a traditional leuku. Dave Canterbury does a good job demonstrating this knife on YouTube. It's quite tough.The price is very competitive as well. Most traditional Leukus are over $100.The sheath is terrible. Find or make another one ASAP.If you understand the traditional role of this knife, it will serve you well.
