LNTREG10: TRE Folder, Black G10

LionSteel

The TRE by LionSteel was an innovative design equipped with a patented system that allowed the user to carry the knife with or without the flipper feature choosing thus to screw or remove it from the blade. However, on the G10 models there is actually only one configuration for the setup, so the name is something of a misnomer.

The blade flipper on this model is non-removable and it does not come with the thumb stud so this is a flipper-only style opener.

The knife has a fully machined titanium frame lock and pocket clip with a G10 face scale and back spacer. It features the IKBS ball-bearing pivot system to improve the knife opening and closing and gives the TRE knife an ultra-fast opening action. The ergonomics are fantastic, the weight is perfect for an everyday carry blade, and this knife gives you supreme confidence in the hand for its size. Designed by Michele 'Molletta' Pensato.

Pros: Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Overall Quality
Cons: Ease of Opening, Pocket Clip
Lovely knife - with a couple hiccups
Build quality of this thing is top notch. It is compact, the blade is sharp, the material is premium. I have always been a fan of flippers. This one, however, is not an assisted flipper and probably needs to be. I cannot flip it hard enough to get the blade all the way extended without also using my wrist. The first day I got it I tried to flick it hard enough to open it and actually cut my finger on the very sharp G10 scale. It is also not reversible (at least in this trim) and, as a lefty, that is a bummer. The pocket clip is also not as good as many other knives and does not allow a deep carry.Bottom line is that it sits in my drawer 100% of the time and I always reach for other knives to carry.

Lionsteel TRE G-10 flipper
All in all this is a very nice EDC knife. The weight is just light enough and the length is just short enough. If the handle length was any longer I probably wouldn't like it. I love how thin it is. The milled out titanium is awesome. The G-10 is textured very nicely. The M390 blade steel is probably the main reason I bought this knife. The blade is the best part of the knife and is centered really well too. The lock up is really nice. No blade stick for me. Blade travel is a little rough while opening but still smooth enough if you're flipping it opened. I don't like the pockect clip. When releasing the frame lock with my thumb to close the knife my fingers squeeze against the pocket clip on the other side which pushes back on the frame lock making it difficult to close up the knife. That took some time and messing around with different hand grips to help that problem. The detent seems good. However, the flipper requires wrist action to deploy the blade the whole way which, honestly, I don't mind. The pivot works loose after awhile of flipping the blade open and close. That's disappointing but you can use a torx and lock tite to help. Overall quality is good to great for the price point.

I use this knife for EDC. It is extremely well made. Like a work of art that works. I'm probably stupid to spend $200 on a knife like this to use for EDC and basically trash it, but what good is it doing me at home in a drawer..What I like about this knife:Frame lock works greatBlade is thick. Not flimsy at allVery light weight while being incredibly sturdyAgain - it is a work of art - no flaws anywhere. Perfect size and weightPocket clip is nice and made of titanium. Not an afterthought like on many brands. I've seen some better flippers, but this one works fine. I bought both this and a ZT 0450 together and returned the ZT. I liked this one far better
