SCDURSQNLBGG10: Quantum Ursus NL - Cromax Beige

Shirogorov Knives

Shirogorov Knives is the company that put Russia on the map of knife collectors worldwide. They are known for their impeccable, lightning-fast action and clean designs. In just over 10 years they went from making knives in their garage to winning the Best Tactical Folder award at BLADE Show, maybe THE most prestigious in our industry. The company is obsessed with quality, and this dedication is reflected in every piece that comes out of their workshop in Yaroslavl.

The original Quantum model has been released in 2019, and Quantum Gen 2 was made available in 2021. Now, Shirogorov Knives is offering a more budget-friendly version of one of their premiere and immediately recognizable folders.

This knife is meant to be a workhorse. Compared to Quantum Gen 1, the blade has been slimmed down to 0.134" in thickness and no longer has a fuller, which makes it more practical and easier to clean. The slight upsweep of the blade transitions into a very ergonomic handle, which has beige G10 inlays. The Quantum Ursus NL also features a Cromax PM stainless blade, a lockbar insert, a sculpted and milled pocket clip, and a lanyard hole on the presentation scale.

Cons: Pocket Clip
Give it some time
I've seen other reviews of this knife in different configurations. Many complain about the stiff detent. I bought mine used at a significant discount from someone who probably had the same issue, because when I got it, it was very stiff. But...it breaks in, you just have to be patient. And the fit and finish is awesome. If you're going to pay this much for a Chris Reeve or Sharp by Design, etc... this knife is in the same neighborhood, and once you get the detent settled, that HUGE, pointy, trailing point blade rockets out and locks up like a champ. And it's kinda cool owning a Russian knife as well, say what you will. Also, the factory edge is super slice-y, though I touched it up a bit. The pocket clip is a little grabby, but I have other knives with the same issue. It's just a gorgeous knife (for me), unique to my collection, and one of my favorites.
