This excellent addition to the byrd “flock” is the distinctively unique Gooney. Its defining feature is an unconventional blade shape, merging the functional elements of the sheepfoot, hawkbill, and Reverse "S" profiles to deliver exceptional versatility. Designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser, the blade is full-flat ground from 9Cr14MoV stainless steel, offering superb edge geometry and low-friction cutting performance. Supported by a durable back lock within a linerless handle, it features gray, peel-ply-textured G10 scales. A four-position pocket clip accommodates tip-up or tip-down carry on either side, and a generously sized lanyard hole allows easy attachment of fobs, lanyards, and safety lines.

Ultimate Slicer
When I saw this knife, I knew it had to be my next. I love the Byrd line, bought a Pelican about 20 years ago, still holds up, but this one is so nice. Super lock up, excellent handle texture, and a blade that wants to slice and slice. No complaints, especially considering I paid $45.

Interesting purchase
After receiving my knife i brought it with me on our annual 4th of July camping trip. After putting it through some small to medium task its done everything I've asked an edc style knife to do and then some. It's got everything you need with a bit of style with the wacky blade shape that actually reminds you of a bird. If your looking for something unique to throw in the pocket I'd recommend this one.

Spyderco - Biyrd Gooney
Very unusual blade profile. It appears to want to be a hook, but the way rear end near choil gives you some added muscle. I'm not quite sure what it was designed for yet - should be fun discovering that. I don't know how long this design will remain in production.The con - its size. Bigger than what I thought it was. Maybe a hair too large for pocket carry (but does make it easy to find). I have to feed cattle many days and this tool may become a daily use in cutting hay bale cordage. It does seem suited for that. Certainly does not appear to have use cutting up a cooked meal. ;^) Nor a weapon brandished to protect ones self. I think it does make for a good conversation starter with other knife enthusiasts.
