TOPS KNIVES' FIRST PRODUCTION MODEL IN S35VN STEEL

Every year, TOPS' President Leo Espinoza makes himself a knife for hunting season. This tradition is something that helps him maintain his creativity by making something that is specifically for him, not for the general public. Sometimes, however, that knife ends up being a TOPS model. Knives like the Viper Scout, White Fang and Tex Creek are examples of Leo's personal hunting knives that became TOPS models.

The Camp Creek is another design to follow that pattern. The goal with this model was to make a super high-quality hunting/camp knife using materials that are uncommon for TOPS. We chose 0.13" thick CPM S35VN steel for its superior edge retention and stainless properties. The handles are a three-color camo-style G10 that looks amazing with TOPS' finishing. It also comes in a stylish tan Kydex sheath with a brown leather dangler.

It's a Nessmuk-like design that functions superbly for hunting and skinning animals, but will also be especially handy around any campsite for processing wood and/or food prep. Of course, it will have the superior fit and finish expected of TOPS as well. All of the features of the Camp Creek combine to form one of the best hunting knives ever to grace TOPS' lineup.

Real Camp Versatility
This knife is great. I own several Tops knives that excel at different tasks, but this is my favorite "real use" camp knife. The knife is well balanced and the handle very comfortable. The handle is designed to rest across your fingers when you close your hand, making it very nimble for cutting tasks like food prep. It also points very well, meaning that you know where the point is even if you're not looking at it, which is great if you're working in the dark when setting up camp. Although this is not designed for heavy wood prep, it's certainly tough enough to take on any common camp tasks like making tent pegs, splitting kindling, creating feather sticks, and most other bushcraft tasks. This is one knife I can carry all day and not have to reach for another tool. Of course nothing is perfect. The spine on my knife can through light sparks, but could be improved. The sheath is well made and I love the color, not just another black sheath, but the knife does hang at an angle away from your side due to the dangler location. After wearing it a while I had zero issues, but I understand why some people swap it for something else. Finally, the materials are great, stainless S35VN blade, G10 handles, and a Kydex sheath. From camping and hiking to prepping Bluefish on the beach for dinner, it hasn't failed me yet. I highly recommend it.

Great design. Not so great edge.
I mostly use knives for hunting and outdoors work around the lease. I like the ergonomics of this knife. It’s easy to use and the blade shape works well for large game skinning and processing. I like the kydex part of the sheath but not the dangler. The knife just hangs awkwardly and the handle sticks out. Unfortunately, there’s not a belt loop if you want to remove the dangler. I ended up making a leather one. Now the knife hangs well from a belt and stays mostly covered with an untucked shirt. The edge was sharp but the bevel was uneven. One side was ground at 20 degrees and the other at 12 degrees. I’ve sharpened it a couple of times at 18 degrees but it’s still not evened out. This is my first knife with s35vn and I’m not impressed with the edge holding. With better steel I can completely process 2 hogs or 2 deer without stopping to touch up the edge. This blade made it 3/4 through the first hog and the edge was gone. It came back easily with a sharpening rod but required several more touch ups to get through both hogs. I would compare the edge holding of this knife to other 8cr blades I’ve used. This may be a tough steel but I’d trade some toughness for a better edge on a knife with this design.

Tops camp creek
This is a phenomenal fixed blade. Perfect size for hiking or hunting. It came razor sharp right out of the box and was ready to go. With the dangler sheath you put it on your belt and completely forget its there. Im going to buy a clip so I can conceal it a little better when I want to but overall its a awesome piece. I took awhile for it to ship from tops but I promise you won't be disappointed. Its one of those knives that just melts into your hand when you hold it. Worth the price 100%
