TOTBS010: Tom Brown Tracker Scout

TOPS Knives

The Tracker Scout wass designed by Tom Brown to be a go-to hunting knife in the field for it's ideal shape and light carry weight. It measures 7-1/4" overall with a 3" 1095 high carbon steel drop point blade with black traction coating. The blade is full tang to provide maximum strength and features black linen Micarta handles which provide a solid grip even when covered in blood. The black kydex belt sheath is an extremely heavy duty design with a rotating clip for multiple carry positions. Made in the USA.

Great little knife, but.......
I really like this knife, but one thing bothers me about it. After I made the purchase, I noticed another TOPS knife called the Covert Anti-Terrorism. If I am not mistaken, it sure looks like the same knife, less the Tom Brown markings - and it is about $25 less in price. My bad, I guess for not studying the selections more thoroughly. This is nothing against Tom - I have several of his books and have great respect for him, but I would just as soon have kept the $25.

The name brand reflects the quality.
I got this knife to fill the void in my collection as a small utility/camp knife. Its is simple tough and beautiful. With the shape of the knife it easily contours with just about any hand size and feel great to use. The two holes in the blade are a nice addition for lashing to and spear. The brass guard for the inside of the lanyard hole is also a nice addition. The kydex sheath is top notch. It operates with a solid click that locks the knife into place. The Micarta latches onto your hand with a slight squeez, very well done. There is also a drain hole witch has actually come in handy for me more than once. I give the knife 5 out of 5 stars for the quality, however there are some things that bother me slightly. This is a sabre ground blade, in my opinion a flat ground blade would have been many many times more useful in my tasks. Secondly I do not like the belt clip at all, it is unremoveable. The clip is very solid and it attaches well to a belt but severely limits carry options. Remove the cheezy belt clip, give me more lashing holes in the kydex sheath and I would gladly give this knife 6 stars. :)
