TOOV78: Overlander 2

TOPS Knives

The Overlander 2 is a great starter tool for beginners that experienced users will love as well. It is a simple, basic design that lends itself to many uses, yet it's overbuilt and rugged like all TOPS models. The ergonomics of the handle provide an excellent grip and make it comfortable to use while hunting, camping, fishing, hiking and in tactical situations. Its size makes it easy to carry, conceal and use in outdoor and urban environments. Overall, the user-friendly configuration of the knife and sheath make the Overlander 2 a great choice for a knife under 4" long.

The Overlander 2 boasts updated finishes with TOPS' black traction coating and oiled tan canvas Micarta handle scales. Slightly thinner handles give this version an even slimmer profile that is just as comfortable to use and carry as the original. When TOPS first developed the Overlander many years ago, there were samples sent to a Military SERE training center. The feedback on the knife was overwhelmingly positive, which is why the Overlander is still in use today.

Another great Tops
One of my favorite fixed blade in this blade size and thickness, takes and holds a very good edge, geometry of edge does better then I thought it would, it does even better now that I have taken the secondary grind down almost to same angle as primary grind with a convex and is great now and still has a very strong edge. Sheath fits perfectly and love the swivel elt clip feature Tops puts on many of their sheaths. Balances great in hand, not super rust prone with litte care,(acts like kabar crovan more then plain 1095 With rust and edge retention)possibly slightly better which I credit a good heat treatment myself. All my tops 1095 acts the same and have quite a few of them. My current favorite high carbon blade manufacture. Great fit and finish, almost perfect,(I am picky as an avid collector/user)

Very Good Utility Knife
I've used this is knife primarily for food prep purposes, an area in which the knife does surprisingly well despite the beefy build of this knife (3/16" thick according to TOPS official specs). The micarta handle and gimping provide an incredible sense of grip and control of the knife. The knife is 1095 steel however, so it is not stainless, which is important to keep in mind, especially when using with food like I do. A small coat of oil on the blade should keep the edge rust-free. Be sure to keep the edge clear of any oxidization agents as well.Overall, this knife is a great general purpose knife for everyone, as TOPS markets it. Highly worth the money if you take care of it.
