CIVC2107DS1: C2107DS-1 Damascus Imperium Folding Knife

CIVIVI Knives

Imperium is a suitable name for this knife design as we think it displays a great sense of absolute power. The wide drop point blade is nearly three-and-a-half inches of layered Damascus steel with dual thumb studs, a finger choil and jimping for detail work, and plenty of belly for all sorts of tasks. It transitions into a slender handle that has a slight curvature to make it viable for all hand sizes culminating in a reversible deep carry pocket clip. Caged ceramic bearings make the action feel especially good and we just can't get over how clean this knife looks. It's well on its way to giving the Elementum a run for its money as the best overall CIVIVI design. The Imperium is absolute perfection.

I was left underwhelmed
I just received this knife and am left a little underwhelmed. The blade is gorgeous, and the drop point is lovely and sleek. The action is smooth and snappy, but that's where the good stuff ends and the "meh" stuff starts. The micarta handles feel cheap in my hands, and the liner lock seems a touch on the flimsy side. Most importantly, though, the front flipper design is terrible. I wanted to try it, and I've given it a fair go after receiving the knife. It's just clumsy and awkward. Using the thumb studs is actually worse. Because the action is so snappy, I've lost my purchase on the studs many times, and that leaves my thumb much too close to the blade. I've come close to cutting myself a few times! I probably have a couple hundred folders in my collection, and I'm used to all types of actions. This one is definitely my least favorite.
