Cold Steel

The Recon I series continues to set a standard for tactical folding knives that's hard to beat. These tough, dependable knives have been a mainstay in the world of tactical knives for many years, with a hard-earned reputation for reliability and strength. This tactical powerhouse is now available with USA-made CPM-S35VN stainless steel featuring a black DLC coating.

A popular knife with military and law enforcement personnel, fire and rescue crews as well as civilians who appreciate a hardworking, dependable tool for any occasion. Sharp as a scalpel and tough as a tank, the Recon series is available with 2, 3, 4, and 5.5-inch blades, and every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible.

These Cold Steel classics are thin, light, razor sharp and amazingly strong! Every model in this diverse series features the world-renowned Tri-Ad lock, making them almost impervious to shock and keeping your precious fingers safe from harm when using your knife in even the most taxing conditions.

10 Year (AUS8 version) Testimony
It made me smile when I counted the years I’ve had my Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto (formerly serrated) and this prompted me to review. I bought it here on knifecenter.com too, when online shopping felt like you’re giving your social security number to a stranger. :)I wanted the former version of this when it was featured on Deadliest Warrior, but around 2011, that version was discontinued. I ended up with the newer version at the time - the AUS8 version of this.Since the metal they use changed, I hope this still helps, at least when it comes to the handle, and the reliability of the Tri-Ad lock.I really love the handle and it’s probably why, even though I have other knives, this is still my number one favorite. The tactile yet comfortable grip feels very secure, with or without gloves. After a decade, it feels familiar. The Tri-Ad lock have pried open many things, including a former coworker’s car door when she left her keys on the driver’s seat. The tests on Cold Steel videos are real since I’ve tried many of them myself, even stabbing thin sheets of metal.Of course, you will inevitably need to sharpen the blade. It is when I learned how to sharpen my own knives. I also found out that I do not like serrated blades because of this.If you’re looking for a knife, and you have one, I suggest sharpening the one you have first and see if you still want to buy new. If it’s your first knife or want to add to your collection, I highly recommend it. 50/50 or plain is up to you.Like any knife enthusiast, I am constantly shopping, looking for something new, especially on days when the blade is chipped or dull but after 10 long years, I still have it, I still love it, and it is still my number 1 pick. Minus the serration. :)
