RST3821: Sorrow Fixed Blade, Black

Real Steel Knives

Continuing with the strong and unique designs of Jakub from Poltergeist works, the Sorrow is the third fixed blade installment from that partnership. With a visually striking straight clip point with a raised swedge, the 4.96" long D2 blade is an impressive cutting tool. A high performance machined G10 handle is well contoured and guarantees a strong degree of control over the large knife, while at the same time making it perfect for all hand sizes. The stout back of the handle drops forward into a jimped thumb ramp and on to the elongated blade. To facilitate further control when cutting, Jakub has designed a double row of anti-slip teeth on the handle. A hidden lanyard hole at the back end of the knife is a classic feature of all of Real Steel fixed blade knives. The included Kydex sheath is of a perfect length to attach to a leg or gear bag.

I own hundreds of knives and the Sorrow has got to be in my top 10. I love everything about this knife. The ergos are fantastic. The milling on the G10 is really nice, even though the G10 matches up with the handles not quite perfectly ... unless being "proud" a uniform .01 all the way around was on purpose. The thickness right behind the edge is .03, which I would call medium. Still slicey, but tough. This is obviously designed to be a fighter, but I think it's a good all-around knife. I carry it a lot, and it rests tight up against my body instead of flopping around. Some people might think the sheath doesn't have enough retention, but I don't like to have to grunt when I draw my knife. It's just tight enough that I don't have to worry about it falling out. There's no screw to adjust this. The tip is tough. The only way you could break it is maybe with the kind of prying where you would expect it to break. You could easily pry heavy staples out of a crate, but I think if you actually hammered it into wood about an inch and laid on it with your foot, it would break. I say this because I don't like knives with ultrafine tips. I'm a bit biased against D2 knives because I think a lot of overseas manufacturers are not heat treating it right. I think this must be the good D2 or Real Steel is treating it just right because it doesn't seem to have any edge retention trouble at all. I'm really starting to trust Real Steel as a manufacturer. If I could start all over again as a collector, I think I would have a lot more Real Steel knives in my collection instead of some others. Buy this now because I don't see it on Real Steel's website anymore so they may have discontinued it.
